What's the story?

Sunil Chhetri will be present alongside Dato Windsor John when the balls are drawn in the AFC Asian Cup 2019 draw. The draw which will take place on May 4, is set to feature the Indian captain.

In case you didn't know...

Sunil Chhetri currently stands fourth in the list of currently active top-scoring international players. He has 56 goals to his name and is behind Clint Dempsey, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The heart of the matter

The 33-year-old will be present at the Burj Khalifa on May 4, when Asian nations find out who they will face in next year's AFC Asian Cup. Chhetri will feature alongside Asian Football Confederation general secretary Dato Windsor John.

The Indian team is currently in Pot 3 and will be hoping to get a favourable draw as they head into their fourth AFC Asian Cup appearance. India achieved their best ever finish in 1964 Asian Cup when they finished runners-up to host nation Israel.

India have enjoyed a decent campaign in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers so, and will look to do better than the last two times when they failed to qualify from Round 1.

What next?

India had to face certain difficulties in the qualification rounds. Although India finished fifth in the initial qualifying round, they were given another chance to qualify. India initially defeated Laos and then won their third round group to qualify.

The Blue Tigers will be hoping to put in some good performances in what will be just their fourth appearance at the AFC Asian Cup and go as far as possible, in the tournament.

Author's take

Chhetri's presence at the AFC Asian Cup 2019 draw will be a proud moment for India. India is still forming an identity in international football and the captain's appearance will definitely put the country on a good platform in front of the continent.
