Atletico de Kolkata striker Helder Postiga set for ISL return against Delhi Dynamos

ATK marquee striker returns after month long injury lay-off

After being out of action for a month, Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) marquee striker Helder Postiga has been included in the squad to face Delhi Dyanmos on November 14. The 31-year old picked up a strain, during the opening ISL encounter, where he scored a brace to lead ATK to victory.

Postiga recuperated himself in Madrid, after undergoing several test under the watchful eyes of Atletico Madrid’s medical team. Head Coach Antonio Habas said, “Postiga will definitely add the enthusiasm to the side after our good performance yesterday against Kerala Blasters FC. He has recuperated well and hopefully will be in action very soon.”

Habas didn’t confirm whether Postiga would start the game or not, but did mention that he would be an integral part of the game.

ATK have also secured the services of former Serbian international Dejan Lekic, who last plied his trade with La Liga outfit SD Eibar. The 30-year old will be playing with some old faces as he reunited with former Eibar teammate Javi Lara. Considered a free-scoring striker, he will ATK a second option up-front, as Postiga might take time to settle in.

Habas said, “I am also looking forward to LekiÄ? who seems a good prospect for the team is also expected soon to join the side.”

Team co-owner Sanjiv Goenka added, “We welcome Hélder Postiga back to the squad. His presence on the field was felt during the very first match of this season where he scored two beautiful goals. Also the red and white fans in Kolkata will be able to watch his moves closely as we have back to back home matches lined up after our last away match against Delhi Dynamos FC. We are looking forward to some brilliant football from Dejan LekiÄ? who will add fervor to our front and increase the goal scoring opportunities”

ATK are currently in fourth position, two points clear of closes rivals Mumbai City FC. With a few games to go, Habas and co. will be looking to seal a semi-final berth soon.
