Borussia Dortmund to play friendly in India?

Dortmund might play a friendly against an all-star ISL team

German giants Borussia Dortmund could play a friendly in India according to Anand Bazaar. Dortmund are on the top of the Bundesliga table right now and have won all matches that they have played this season.

The Star Network, who have acquired the television rights for Germany’s top division also hold the rights for the cash-rich Indian Super League are planning to arrange a one-off friendly between the German giants and an all-star team from the ISL. The network are the ones who are trying to make this dream match a reality.

Sales and Marketing Director Kirsten Kramer was quoted by the website saying that the German club would be interested in such a friendly because the Indian market would relate to us better. Kramer said, “Indian market will understand us better. In fact, if we decided to go somewhere, but just one or two matches we will not go far. We want to mix with the culture of football.”

When asked about the possibility of such a friendly, Kramer said, “'Of course we'll think about it. December is a good time.”

December would make perfect sense for the Bundesliga leaders as the German league stops for the winter break. If Dortmund decide to come to India, they would not be the first team to travel to India during the winter break as Bayern Munich have already played against the National team in Baichung Bhutia’s final game in 2012.

Since the idea is still in the initial stages it is still not confirmed whether the ISL team would consist of foreigners and domestic players or if it would just be the Indian contingent against Dortmund.

However, it is highly unlikely that the deal would be finalized for this December, but the idea of Dortmund playing in India would definitely generate further interest in the sport in the cricket-crazed nation.

Dortmund confirmed the signing of Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj on loan on the last day of the transfer window while letting Polish international Jakub B?aszczykowski leave for Italy with Serie A side Fiorentina.
