EDU Football League battle continues in its 4th week at Bode Saprai

The EDU Football League’s 4th week matches were held on Sunday, 9th February at Bhode Saprai, a small village near Jamsher in Jalandhar district of Punjab. Bhode Saprai is one of the satellite training centres where Youth Football Club Rurka Kalan imparts coaching to around 200 boys and girls below 16 years. A total of 16 matches were conducted in the Under 12, 14 and 16 age groups at the mini stadium. The ‘Most valuable player’ of every match was awarded a sports jersey. Similarly, players who did well in life skills educational workshop were honoured.

The first match of the 2nd week of the league in the Under 12 category was a goalless draw between the host Everwear FA and World Welfare Wing from Aluna Tola. In other Under 12 encounters, Dashmesh FA from Jandiala drew 1-1 with Soccer FA from Kanha Dhesian, Baba Bhai Gurdial FA beat Total Football Academy from Bhode Saprai 1-0, Narinder Singh Purewal FA from Chak Muglani had a comfortable 3-0 victory against Baba Balwant Singh FA from Rurka Kalan, Khalsa FA from Attari snatched a 2-1 victory, scoring in the last minute of extra time against Bilga FA, while Shaheed Udham Singh FA beat YFC Rurka Kalan 3-0.

In the Under 14 age group, Rurka Kalan FA coasted to a comfortable 4-1 victory over Santokh Singh Bassi FA, Daljit Kaur FA from UK defeated Coca Cola FA from Rurka Kalan 5-0, Baba Dhyan Dass FA beat Kartar Singh Saraba FA 3-0, and Parmar FC Aluna Tola had a goalless draw with STS FA from Kanha Dhesian. Cocacola FA from Rurka Kalan lost to Central Bank of India FA from Goraya by the score 2-0, while IndPro FA from Bhode Saprai rode on Jaspreet Singh’s solitary strike to pip Jagbani FA from Rurka Kalan 1-0 in the last match of the Under 14 category.

In Under 16 age group, Rabbi Darbar FA from Shankar beat Nivia Sports FA from Jalandhar 2-0, Shaheed Bhagat Singh FA from Bode Saprai lost to Jonex FA from Chak Muglani by 2-0, YFC Bundala won 5-0 against Avon Cycles FA from Ludhiana and the last match of the week between Philips FA from Chandigarh and Guru Nanak Sports Academy ended in a goalless draw.

The aim of the league is to promote football as a tool for sustainable development and save the youth from drugs. The 1,200 registered players of the league are closely monitored in physical, technical and tactical areas. These players are distributed in 50 teams which will play 7-a-side football games every Sunday.

YFC Rurka Kalan president Gurmangal Dass said: “The 3rd edition of EFL is a project for the better future of these children. Our aim is to help them in their careers and provide them a platform to showcase their football skills. I urge professional clubs to have a look at these players and scout the best players of EFL and nurture these talented players from Punjab.”

The league started on January 12th and will end on February 23rd. The kids are awarded with various freebies to keep their motivation levels high.
