Kolkata, the football hub of India, may get a huge blow as they are in danger of being omitted as a probable venue for the FIFA U-17 World Cup which is scheduled to be held in India in 2017.
According to FIFA’s clause, if there is a ground with artificial turf (such as the Salt Lake Stadium), it must also have an attached practice ground which also has to be an artificial turf ground. Although there is no attached artificial turf practice ground, Kolkata has another artificial turf stadium in Barasat and everyone hopes that FIFA considers the fact and allow the matches to be held in Kolkata.
Bangalore is on the FIFA radar as the Kanteerava stadium is a probable venue, but Bangalore too does not have a second ground with artificial turf.
FIFA officials will inspect the facilities in Pune on Friday, Kolkata on the 28th of February and will also watch the match between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal the following day.
