I-League holders Dempo are going to release Ghana international Stephen Offei, who is set to leave the club without making any appearances in the I-League.
The central defender, who joined Dempo in August, was surprisingly not registered in the I-League with the player telling Sportskeeda at the start of December in an exclusive interview that he had given the Goan club an ultimatum to register him or he would leave.
Offei has now been told by coach Armando Colaco that he will be released with a financial compensation likely to be discussed between the two parties.
The 26-year-old, who has played in the top division of the Israel domestic league, however is looking for a club in India as he has a visa till the end of the season.
“He (Armando Colaco) has told me that I will be released. I don’t understand the reason as he had mentioned earlier that I need to acclimatise but he never played me in the I-League. If I don’t play how will I adapt? I only played in the Goa League and even often didn’t train with the first team.
“Yes I want to stay in India and sign for a club here as I have a visa till the summer. My agent is in Greece so I am talking to everybody I can here to help me get an I-League club,” Offei told Sportskeeda on Wednesday.
