Indian Super League franchise Delhi Dynamos unveiled; announce strategic partnership with Feyenoord FC

Delhi Dynamos were unveiled at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium

DEN Networks unveiled their team for the Indian Super League, the Delhi Dynamos at the Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium in Delhi. The management announced its strategic association with Dutch club Feyernood Rotterdam FC. With an enthusiastic, rustic and somewhat socially incorrect tagline of “Thok Denge”, this team looks like a strong contender for the title.

Delhi Dynamos and their association with Feyenoord

The Delhi Dynamos FC team will be playing its home matches at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, which is currently under renovation, and efforts are on in order to ensure that it reaches the standards of a World Class stadium. Feyenoord, Delhi’s strategic partners are one of the most successful teams in Dutch Football. With 14 league titles, 1 European Cup and 12 KNVB Cups, they can prove to be very useful partners.

Despite the fact that they haven’t won any significant title in the past decade, the International Relations manager Mr. Gido Vader, assured that a club that has had great ex-players like Robin van Persie and Giovanni van Bronckhorst and recent World Cup stars for the Netherlands like Bruno Martins Indi and Stefan De Vrij, will be valuable asset for the Delhi Team. The other club to have a significant partnership with a foreign club are Atletico de Kolkata, whose partners Atletico Madrid possess players of the calibre of Koke, and Arda Turan.

Will filling the stadium be an issue?

The press conference also had a few serious moments when questions were raised as to whether the full capacity of the JLN stadium would be filled for the matches in Delhi considering the comparatively low popularity of football with respect to cricket and the non-cooperation of the I-League Management. The response from the Delhi Dynamos FC management was centred around the developments that have taken place in the recent past, especially the fact that India will be hosting the 2017 U-17 World Cup and are vying for the 2017-18 FIFA Club World Cup.

From a viewership perspective, the number of people watching has gone up around 13,4 % in the past few years. Strong partnerships with reknowned clubs of Europe and a strategic capitalization of the leftover football fever from the World Cup in Brazil will help football in India come a long way. As of now, the management haven’t decided as to who the Coach will be and will entrust him with the responsibility of player selection.
