Kerala Blasters kept alive their playoff hopes with a 2-1 away victory over FC Pune City at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Friday’s Indian Super League (ISL) clash. Jackichand Singh had given the Blasters the lead on the 58th minute but Emiliano Alfaro equalised on the 78th. As the game went into the injury time, it was CK Vineeth, the man known for scoring late winners, who took up the onus and scored a spectacular solo goal to give his side a much-needed victory.

Kerala are in such a situation that they need to win almost every match to stand a chance of qualifying for the playoffs. As the game headed into the final stages, it was Pune who were threatening to score a winner time and again. Marcelinho had struck the woodwork twice in the dying minutes, much to the horror of the Blasters’ fans.

However, luck appeared to be on their side tonight.

Pune were pretty solid in their defence, as they have been throughout the season. They were confident that they would be able to see out the match. After all, two minutes of added time had already passed and the Blasters had the ball inside their own half. But the script was written for one man tonight.

The ball was flighted into the path of Vineeth, who showed great control to bring it down. What he did next was simply out of the world. He took one touch to get his balance right and then unleashed a venomous shot with his weaker left foot. The ball flew into the top corner, past a hapless Vishal Kaith, much to the joy of the Kerala fans.
