ISL 2017: Foreign signings who have played under elite managers of the game

Since the inception of the Indian Super League, foreign players have been the focal point in the tournament being highly successful. These elite foreign stars, though most of them being in the final years of their careers, attract the fans which in turn helps the league to be more popular.

These players come to India after stellar showings in some of the biggest leagues in the world. As discussed earlier, the current crop of foreign signings in the ISL have played with the best players in the world, some of them being former Ballon d'Or winners. In this list, we will track down the ISL signings for the upcoming season who have played under some of the best managers in the business:

#6 Paul Rachubka - Alex Ferguson

The American goalkeeper has signed for Kerala Blasters recently and will be seen in the famous yellow of Kerala soon. Rachubka, a product of the Manchester United academy, was in the United's first team squad for three years between 2000-2002.

Though he made just one official appearance for the Red Devils, the goalkeeper got a chance to be managed by none other than Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford. Ferguson is considered to be one of the greatest managers of all time and the 36-year-old Blasters custodian had a chance to learn all his tricks under the Glaswegian's management.

A product of the Real Madrid Castilla, Tebar worked his way up to the senior squad at Santiago Bernabeu. Though the midfielder could not cement his place at Los Blancos, Tebar played with some of the biggest names in world football. He was a teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Sergio Ramos during his solitary season in the La Liga in the 2009/10 season. Tebar played under Manuel Pellegrini, the then Real Madrid manager. Pellegrini also managed Manchester City and won the Premier League in 2014.

#4 Emiliano Alfaro - Diego Simeone

The former North East United forward, Emiliano Alfaro has signed for FC Pune City for the next ISL campaign. Alfaro started his journey in his native country, Uruguay with his breakthrough spell coming at San Lorenzo. There, he was coached by none other than Diego Simeone - the Atletico Madrid manager who was taking his first steps in management at that time. Alfaro even claims that it was Simeone from whom he acquired his terrier-like attitude.

#3 Wes Brown - Alex Ferguson

The central defender is one of the marquee players for not only Kerala Blasters but for the league in general. Brown had a highly successful career with Manchester United where he spent 13 years of his playing career and won five Premier League titles along with three Champions Leagues. He was under the wings of Sir Alex Ferguson during his time with the Red Devils who always thought of Brown as one of his trusted lieutenants.

One of the biggest signings to be ever completed in ISL's history, Dimitar Berbatov is a name which has the ability to make this season a blockbuster one. Possessing a silky touch combined with clinical finishing, Berbatov guarantees goals for Kerala Blasters in the 2017/18 ISL.

The Bulgarian had a brilliant career where he played under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and under Martin Jol at Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham. Berbatov will now play under Rene Muelensteen, the Kerala Blasters coach who was the striker's assistant manager at Manchester United and then Fulham. He also had a spell at Monaco under the 2015-16 Premier League winning manager, Claudio Ranieri.

Harry Redknapp signed Robbie Keane for his second stint with Spurs

The Irish striker has had a long career spanning 20 long years. He has now joined Atletico De Kolkata in what might be his final assignment. During his illustrious career, Keane has played under a number of elite managers in the Premier League.

During his stint with Tottenham Hotspur, Keane was managed by Glenn Hoddle, Martin Jol and Harry Redknapp. He also played under Sam Allardyce at West Ham United whereas, during his stay with Liverpool, Keane was coached by Rafa Benitez.
