ISL 2017: Rating each team's training kit for the latest season

The ISL is already underway
The ISL is already underway

The Indian Super League (ISL) is finally underway and even though the first ISL 2017 game between the Kerala Blasters and ATK may have flattered to deceive in terms of goals, there's still plenty to look forward to, as the league gathers speed.

One of the main talking points ahead of the pre-season was the reveal of each team's home and away jerseys and after a satisfactory response to the same, it is now time to put the training kits under the scanner to see which sides make the cut and which ones disappoint.

So here are the training kits of each team marked out of 5:

#1 Kerala Blasters FC 4/5

The Blasters have always kept things simple. From their jersey design even to their training kits. The blue attire just works here. There isn't much flashy about it and the yellow lining on the sleeve is elegant in itself. It's pretty similar to an actual match day jersey which players have decided to put on to train before a pre-season game as in the photo. All in all, it ticks the right boxes.

#2 Jamshedpur FC 3/5

From what we have seen so far, the training kits of the new additions to the ISL, Jamshedpur FC are nothing out of the ordinary. The green, blue or yellow (in this case) kits the team trains in look comfortable but lack a little something to be considered among the best. With the home jersey looking a little cluttered, the training one may just trump the actual jersey.

#3 FC Goa 3.5/5

FC Goa's team looks set to make ISL 2017 their year and here is a picture of them during training, sporting an all-red everything training kit before a session. The only printed appearance on the shirt is the logo which makes it's nice to look at. However a drawback could be the use of just one colour and a simple blue outline every now and then.

#4 Mumbai City FC 4/5

Here is a rendition of the Mumbai City FC training kit before the team gets ready for its first game in ISL 2017. The kit on display here is a blue and yellow combination jersey which looks pretty well put up. The colour combination seems to work pretty well and is a better option than the plain white one the players also tend to use.

#5 Bengaluru FC 2.5/5

Newbies Bengaluru FC will be gunning for their maiden ISL triumph but their training kit seems to be a little off-putting, to say the least. Here they are in a green and black jersey which for some reason just does not work. Keeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu in all black takes the spotlight in a good way but the rest, well let's focus on the football.

#6 NorthEast United FC 2/5

Sky blues? On a training kit? Just doesn't cut it, if you ask me. While there is no doubting their ability on the pitch, the NorthEast players would be much happier sticking to their everyday clothing apparel instead of wearing this to their training sessions. The less said the better.

#7 Chennaiyin FC 3/5

Chennaiyin FC's preparations are in full swing for ISL 2017 and here they are sweating it out in training. The jersey, however, could have been slightly better put forward. The colour works but the random placement of a sponsor in the chest area seems awfully absurd and ruins what could have been a good training kit.

#8 Delhi Dynamos FC 3/5

The Delhi Dynamos team can be seen in training here and if you take your attention off the smog in the background, one can see the bright green jerseys shining through. While the bold choice of colour may work for some, there seems to be a missing piece in the puzzle here, which makes this particular colour seem slightly revolting. A decent attempt, but still some distance to go.

#9 FC Pune City 4.5/5

FC Pune City may still be looking to win the ISL trophy, but if there was a trophy for the best-designed training kit, they'd probably win it hands down. The silver/grey shirt with just a sponsor and the logo, matched with three stripes on the biceps area looks the best of the lot so far. Way to go.

#10 ATK 2/5

Leaving the champions for the last, ATK appear to be playing it safe by simply having their players train with bibs over what looks to be the actual home jersey of the team. The idea isn't all that bad but does expose some shortcomings. From the keeper's plain black to a white and blue combination on the right, it's clear that not a lot of thought has gone into this particular aspect of the ATK design.
