Keventer Cup 2013: Shillong's St. Anthony's School are champions

Keventer Cup 1

St. Anthony’s School were the winners of the Keventer Cup this year

St. Anthony’s School, Shillong, won the 2013 edition of the Debanjan Sen Foundation-organized Keventer Cup 2013 for schools.

The final was played at the Heritage School campus in Kolkata. This year’s Keventer Cup, an inter-school football tournament in Kolkata, was played amongst 30 school football teams, which include the top 28 English medium schools of Kolkata plus a team each from Sikkim and Shillong from July 1 until today. The tournament was held across four different venues – La Martiniere, St James and The Heritage School – simultaneously.

The winners from the north-east dominated from start to finish but St.Lawrence, Kolkata defended well and did create a few chances. This is the first time that a team from outside the state has won the Keventer Cup and hopefully many more such teams will participate in the tournament in the years to come.

The final saw the presence of the AIFF Senior Vice-President Subrata Dutta, I-League winning Technical Director Subhas Bhowmick besides star football players in Alvito D’Cunha, Syed Rahim Nabi and Nirmal Chetri.

A number of the well-wishers of the Debanjan Sen Foundation, who once more put up a terrific show in organizing the tournament, were also present.
