What's the story?

Scottish Premier League club Motherwell FC's Chief Operating Officer and Director Alan Burrows has been impressed by the Indian youngster's first training session in Scotland.

In case you didn't know...

Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem joined the Scottish club on a reported three-week long trial after impressing everyone at the FIFA U-17 World Cup held in October last year. Dheeraj played for the All India Football Federation (AIFF) side Indian Arrows in the I-League till 2017 year-end after which he enjoyed a brief training stint at ISL club Kerala Blasters. However, he later decided to move abroad in search of new opportunities.

The heart of the matter

Motherwell FC Chief Operating Officer Alan Burrows has expressed his pleasure on Twitter about Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem's first day of training at the Scottish side.

Dheeraj started the trial with Motherwell FC on Thursday and went straight into training with the team and Burrows was impressed by his performances.

Burrows also responded to an Indian fan on Twitter who was questioning the Scottish club's prerogative in signing the young Indian keeper and doubted if it was a marketing ploy. The Scottish club's chief assured him that they had taken Dheeraj on trial solely based on his merit and the potential they see in him.

The young goalkeeper will continue his trials at the North Lanarkshire club and if he impresses the coaches there, he can sign for the SPL side once he turns 18 in July.

What's next?

The three-week trial for Dheeraj continues at Motherwell FC and it will be interesting to see whether the club decides to take him onboard or not.

Author's take

Dheeraj Singh's move abroad was touted as some fans as a marketing tactic to get the Indian fans interested in the club but the views of the Chief Operating Officer establish that he was indeed selected for his talent.
