The 2014 FIFA world cup gave way to the launch of many new boots. One among the plethora of boots released is the new Nike SuperFly IV. The series was originally bought to an end in late 2011. Nike couldn’t think of a better time to re-launch their explosive speed silo range than at the biggest stage in football, the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The latest Superfly was born after four years of research in the Nike Sport Research Lab. Taking inputs from the world’s fastest athletes; the Nike Mercurial SuperFly is designed to redefine speed. The revolutionary design behind the SuperFly features Nike’s most advanced technology: Nike Flyknit. Flynit first caught attention in the 2012 London Olympics with the closefitting knitted upper gaining praise from athletes whether it being with running spike or shoes. Putting less material between the foot and the ball could enhance the player’s touch, coming into play especially when doing high speed attacks.

Brilliant textures

The boot introduced the high-top Dynamic Fit Collar, radically transforming the mercurial silo ensuring a better fit and a more natural feel. The Brio Cables are locked onto the outsole by knitting it directly into the upper of the boot. Also a full length, two-layer carbon chassis has been introduced in place of the 3 layered chassis used on older versions.

Based on player feedback from past models, the new softer plate is more responsive and flexible. Central lacing is connected to the Brio Cable, once tightened gives you a perfect fit. The SuperFly IV weighs just 200g, being 45g lighter than the previous versions. The result is that you get a boot that fits like no boot before, the Dynamic Fit collar and Brio Cables working in synch to give you a locked down feel with the boot as though the boot is part of your body.

The boot is true to fit size, meaning you get an 8.5 if you order an 8.5. The mercurial series isn’t too friendly to people with wider feet, same is the case with SuperFly IV. The toe area of the boot is rather narrow and refuses to stretch at the tip of the toe like most boots do.

The thin Nike skin upper gives a nice barefoot feeling whether it would be controlling the ball, shooting or passing. The micro texturing in the upper adds more grip which helps in controling the ball.

This time around Nike has redesigned the Mercurial traction system by adding some blades to the heel resulting in quick penetration and quick release, making you feel more stable than in other boots. It features two extra blades in the heel and one extra blade in the forefoot, which was requested specifically by Cristiano Ronaldo during the development of the boot. Cristiano Ronaldo’s new boots will be the brightest colorway seen o the mercurial till now. The Nike Mercurial SuperFly-Electric Green boots was launched exclusive to the Real Madrid star striker with the tagline “Ready to Shock the World Again”.

More blades makes the boot feel more planted.

Another great addition is the Nike acc like in all top range Nike boots. It is basically a coating on the upper that makes it all the more water proof, helping the players in wet weather as the ball doesn’t slide off the foot so much.

The only problem arises when it comes to the durability of the boot. The dynamic fit collar which adds great comfort also adds dirt rather quickly making the boot look dirty fast. It’s because the thin layer of Nike Skin doesn’t cover the collar part. But with the well made Nike’s Flynit material, the boot will remain intact for a long time like seen in previous Nike boots.

The all new Nike mercurial SuperFly is priced rather high but you pay the premium for a premium product, worth every rupee. The perfect fit and sensation it gives will be hard to find from other boots in the market right now. Boots that fits perfectly and helps you run like the wind. It’s a solid buy.
