It’s no secret that many professional athletes make big money, while some are content to play on their teams and stay out of the spotlight for the most part, there are many athletes who are on par with A-List celebrities in terms of their lifestyles and salaries. However, there are also many athletes who spend amounts of cash on items that are a little less consumer based and a lot more charitable, and David Platt and his team FC Pune City are one among them.

Taking time off from the regular training session on the eve of their Hero Indian Super League football, against Kerala Blasters, Platt along with Roger Johnson, Tuncay ÅÂÂ?anlı, and James Bailey showed their charitable side by handing over educational toys and FC Pune City goodie bags to underprivileged children from Tathapi Trust, Bhumkar Chowk, Kala Khadak, Wakad.

“It was something different and I would not call it under-privileged children but a charity crèche, It was a great feeling and the way these kids reacted when we were there was something many of us miss,” said Platt while talking to Sportskeeda after the press conference.

“Discipline and the way we play the game is what we learn while on the playing arena, but making a visit to such places is a different feeling which cannot be expressed but it is within oneself,” said the former Manchester United player.

This was a move initiated by coach Platt of the Rajesh Wadhawan Group and Hrithik Roshan owned team.

“When I go back home this would be one thing which I would like to share with all and especially my family,” added the coach, about the move which was a very good cause.

This is for the first time a sports person has come to our centre and having David Platt here was something very special,” said Achut Borgavkar, the co-ordinator of the trust which has six centres in the Wakad vicinity.

Tathapi Trust is at present working to establish a standardised crèche programme to support Health, Nutrition and Early Education of children all below the age group of six and belong to migrated labourers who work in this vicinity, in selected areas under Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
