Shillong Lajong FC: Minchol Son voted fans MVP of the season

Japan-born North Korean Minchol Son has been voted as the Shillong Lajong FC’s ‘Most Valuable Player’ of the I-League 2012/13 season in an online fan voting via the Shillong Lajong FC Facebook page.Through the online voting the Lajong fans were given a chance to select their best player of the season, and it was Son who garnered the most votes.

Defender Minchol Son’s presence has indeed made a significant difference to the squad in the season gone by which saw Son bagging an outstanding five Man of the Match awards.

The centre-back who scored his first I-League goal against Mumbai FC in April this year, has been one of the crowd favourites throughout the entire course of the season, and it was no surprise that they rewarded him duly for his efforts on the field.

The 26 year old who is currently in Japan enjoying his holiday said, “Lajong is my family and I have to thank all the players, the coaching staff, the management and the fans, who since day one, have been great and unbelievable.”

“Winning the most valuable player of the season feels great and I am extremely happy to get this honour. This whole year has been an incredible experience for me since it was my first time playing in India. I have enjoyed every single bit of it.”

“Hopefully we do better next season, and give Shillong, the best football experience,” Son concluded, who will play next season for the Northeastern club.
