Goan outfit Vasco Sports Club have appointed former ONGC coach Subrata Bhattacharya as their new head coach. Vasco will be taking part in this season’s I-League second division and Bhattacharya, who resigned as ONGC coach last month, has signed a contract till the end of May.
This will be Bhattacharya’s second stint at Vasco, having coached them in the 2009 when they narrowly missed out on I-League qualification.
Vasco, who under current Pune FC coach Derrick Pereira finished in the top three of the National Football League (NFL) in the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons, last played in the I-League in 2008-09 when they finished rock bottom.
Bhattacharya, who has also coached Ar-Hima, Mumbai FC and Oil India, is determined to bring them back to India’s top division and explaining the reason for joining Vasco, the AFC A license coach told sportskeeda, “The fans, management want me back here at Vasco and for me Goa is the right place for a coach like me who wants a total professional environment.”
