Barcelona’s home kit for the 2016/17 season

Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez are set to wear a stunning new Barcelona shirt next season which is reminiscent of their first European win at Wembley in 1992. Barcelona edged past Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid last season to win the La Liga title where they donned the unusual horizontal stripes. Luis Enrique’s men will set their eyes to yet another European triumph after winning a treble in the 2015-15 season.

Home kit

The new home kit is a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Barcelona’s first European win in 1992. Ronald Koeman scored an extra-time winner as the Blaugrana lifted the trophy at the Wembley Stadium in England.

The home shirt features the classic Barcelona broad stripes which alternate the traditional red and blue. Lighter shades of the same hues also alternate within the pattern. Thinner tonal stripes taper near the hem of the shirt which is emblematic in the model worn by the team in the 1991-92 season.

Though initially released without any shirt sponsor after their contract with Qatar Airways had expired, Barcelona extended their contract with the airline company by one more year which means they will be sporting ‘Qatar Airways’ on their shirt for next season too.

Barca is knitted along the back collar along with a small Catalan flag. The words ‘Un Crit’ and ‘Valen’, which together translates into ‘Our Cry is Bold’ is written on the shirt to provide inspiration to the players as well as the fans.

Iniesta, speaking to Nike, said: 'At Barcelona, we believe in attacking and fast football.

'This new kit feels light and comfortable - it’s an expression of both our heritage and our future.'

The home shirt is coupled with blue shorts in classic Barcelona colours and blue socks with red detailing near the calf.

Barcelona away kit will be purple this time around

Nike has blended the blue and red of Barcelona’s colours to produce the striking new purple kit which they will be wearing in away matches for the 2016-17 season.

The Catalan giants, on their official website, said the latest design 'continues Barcelona's tradition of playing in vibrant away colours that shock and excite, while also reasserting their classic home colours together in an unprecedented new fashion.'The deep purple shorts bear vivid pink highlights which match the pink socks completing the away kit.

In the same pattern as the home shirt, the Catalan flag and the word ‘Barca’ is knitted on the back of the collar.

Luis Enrique’s side will hope that both the classic Barcelona home shirt and the modern away shirt can inspire them to Champions League triumph yet again in the coming season.
