Why Mohun Bagan are not playing in the Green and Maroon in CFL 2017

Mohun Bagan are playing in all whites at the moment with hints of maroon and green

Mohun Bagan so far this season have been playing in all white jersey - shying away from their traditional colours, the Green and Maroon although their current jersey has some hints of their prestigious colours. But why the sudden deviation in terms of colour scheme? The answer lies in the aspect of visibility.

The Mariners this season in the CFL have been playing under artificial lights at their own stadium at the Kolkata Maidan. And whilst this so far has been a spectacle to behold for most, the lights are, however, not strong enough for the Mariners to adorn their traditional colours.

A person close to the situation speaking to Sportskeeda on the condition of anonymity stated, "The reason why (Mohun) Bagan has been wearing white so far is due to two reasons. Firstly, the lights in the Mohun Bagan Stadium are adequate for football but they are not really that powerful. So it means, that the Green and Maroon colours look rather blackish under the lights. That means, spotting each other on the field becomes a problem. So, the hierarchy has decided to wear all whites so far.

"Secondly, after wearing nearly the same jersey for the past three seasons, the Bagan hierarchy are looking for a new design this coming season. However, they are waiting on a new primary sponsor for the season along with whom they can design the new one."

Mohun Bagan has already roped in Nilkamal as their co-sponsors for the upcoming season as we had reported earlier and now will be looking to finalise a deal for a new primary sponsor.

The Mariners hierarchy at the moment is going through rigorous paperwork to form a company called Mohun Bagan Football Club (India) Pvt. Ltd. under whom they will be registered for the upcoming I-League season. They were previously registered under the company called United Mohun Bagan Football Club Pvt. Ltd.- one they had formed along with UB Group, who had 50% share in the company.

The club has got no money from the UB Group for the last three years and now with the UB Group assets being ordered to be liquidated, there is all the more reason for Bagan to walk away from the marriage.

The Green and Maroon of Mohun Bagan are set to be back soon. Till then, the Mohun Bagan faithful will have to wait with a bated breath. The club also has plans for merchandising the new jerseys.
