IndyCar has been putting itself on the world map slowly but surely. Every time a young racer takes to the wheel in the American open-wheel car racing series, a new fanbase is born. The young blood promises to carry on the legacy left by the retiring greats and infuse new life into American motorsport.
The 2024 IndyCar series saw equal participation by the younger contingent and the more experienced drivers. Out of 28 drivers, fourteen were aged 28 or younger, while the older half comprised drivers between ages 31 and 44.
On the 2025 grid (where four seats are yet to be filled), while the number of drivers under 28 is still fourteen, the older set has been reduced to nine drivers. Let's take a look at the five youngest drivers who will line up on the IndyCar grid next year (rounded off to the nearest month).
#5. Sting Ray Robb - Juncos Hollinger Racing
Sting Ray Robb has been signed by Juncos Hollinger Racing for the 2025 IndyCar season. The American driver will reunite with the team five years after winning the Indy Pro Championship with them in 2020. Ricardo Juncos, co-owner of JHR, however, described the signing as "more than a reunion."
Robb's Indy exploits are known quite well. He finished second in INDY NXT by Firestone in 2022 and chose to advance to step up to the IndyCar series in 2023. He drove for Dale Coyne Racing in a year to forget for the American. He finished 23rd with 147 points before switching to Aj Coyt Racing in 2024. His ranking only marginally improved this year as he improved to P20 in the standings, earning 185 points.
In 2018, Robb also briefly switched to stock cars. He raced in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West 2018 NAPA Auto Parts Idaho 208, finishing P10.
Also, if you're wondering if Sting Ray is a stage name. Surprisingly it is his actual name as he was named after the iconic Chevrolet Stingray Corvette. When he lines up for JHR for the first race in St. Petersburg in 2025, he will be 23 years and 6 months old.
#4. David Malukas - Aj Foyt Racing
2024 was David Malukas' third year in IndyCar. However, his year began at a shocking low. On 11th February, a month before the season started, he injured his left wrist, requiring surgery. As a result, Arrow McLaren released him citing the lack of a return date to racing.
Unsurprisingly, a driver of his caliber couldn't go unsigned. Once he recovered, Meyer Shank Racing signed him for the remainder of the season, beginning with the Grand Prix of Monterey on June 23. Malukas finished P24 in the standings with 148 points to his name - a step down from 265 points and P17 in 2023.
In 2021, Malukas finished second in the Indy NXT with a series-record 16 podiums. He is also a multiple-karting champion.
In 2025, Malukas will race for Aj Foyt Racing in their Chevrolet-powered Dallara. The Chicago-born driver will be 23 years and 5 months old at the time of the first race weekend next year.
#3. Louis Foster - Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing
Louis Foster is one of the most exciting IndyCar talents to look out for in 2025. The British driver exhibited dominance in the 2024 edition of the Indy NXT, winning eight out of 14 races with Andretti Global. He did a 'Max Verstappen' in the feeder series, finishing a massive 122 points clear of the runner-up. This was a sizeable step up from his 2023 Indy NXT season, where he finished in fourth place.
His racing career began in the UK, where he had a successful karting career. Foster won multiple races in the British F4 and F3 championships, finishing 3rd overall in both. In 2022, he tasted his first American racing success, winning the Indy Pro 2000 series with Exclusive Autosport.
In 2025, Foster will drive for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and will be 21 years and 7 months old on his IndyCar debut in St. Petersburg in 2025.
#2. Kyffin Simpson - Chip Ganassi Racing
In 2024, Kyffin Simpson kicked off his rookie year in IndyCar with style. The driver from the Cayman Islands finished P12 and also set the fastest lap of the race. Though he couldn't sustain such results throughout the year, the Chip Ganassi Racing rookie finished a decent P21 in the standings with 182 points. At 19 years and 230 days, he was also the youngest 2024 Indy 500 starter.
His 2023 heroics in other forms of motorsport were pivotal in landing a full-time IndyCar seat. Driving for Algarve Pro Racing, Simpson finished P3 in the LMP2 Asian Le Mans series and bettered it to a P1 in the LMP2 European Le Mans series.
When he takes the wheel of his No. 4 Honda-powered Dallara in St. Petersburg in 2025, he will be 20 years and 5 months old.
#1. Nolan Siegel - Arrow McLaren
Nolan Siegel is one of the greatest talents unearthed by Arrow McLaren. The team signed him midway through 2024 to replace Theo Pourchaire. He was made to leave his ongoing Indy NXT season for an upgrade to the real deal.
In 2024, Siegel also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 class. Before that, he was Indy NXT's 2023 Rookie of the Year. In 2022, the California native competed in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship, finishing P4 with two wins and six podiums to his name.
He will be the youngest IndyCar driver in 2025, aged 20 years and 4 months old during the first race weekend of the year.
