The IndyCar circus is eyeing to move to its eighth fixture on the 2025 calendar. The World Wide Technology Raceway will host the Bommarito Automotive 500 at the upcoming weekend, with the 260-lap race lined up for Sunday, June 15.
Bommarito Automotive 500 brings IndyCar back to the oval tracks for the second time this season. Though the premier open-wheel racing in the United States is often attributed to oval racing, the previous seven races saw only a single race, i.e., the Indy 500, take on an oval configuration.
The World Wide Technology Raceway will be the seventh different race venue of the season as the 1.25-mile track awaits the 27-car grid to take on the challenge to emerge victorious. On the other hand, while it falls into the oval category, the track is shaped similarly to an egg, bringing fond memories of the Twin Ring Motegi circuit in Japan.
The track became a part of the IndyCar calendar in 1997, and Paul Tracy won the inaugural race. The event then remained part of the racing calendar till 2003, before being dropped.
However, it made a return in 2017 for its second stint on the IndyCar fixture. Josef Newgarden and Scott Dixon are the only repeat winners at the 1.25-mile track. The Team Penske driver has won a majority of the races held at the track in its second phase on the calendar (5 out of the nine races held since 2017).
With Newgarden setting its eyes on taking the victory lane on Sunday, the weather is slated to play a key role in shaping how the race will pan out. According to Weather.com, the weather prediction for the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 is:
Saturday, June 14 - Practice 1, Qualifications, and High Line Practice
Forecast: Scattered thunderstorms
Temperature: 69°F - 83°F
Chance of precipitation: 40%
Wind speed: 5 - 10mph
Sunday, June 15 - Race
Forecast: Partly Cloudy
Temperature: 70°F - 87°F
Chance of precipitation: 20%
Wind speed: 5 - 10mph
Josef Newgarden could finally earn his breakthrough at the IndyCar St. Louis race

Despite Josef Newgarden having a great reputation on the grid for his two championships and Indy 500 victories, his start to the 2025 season has been mundane. After scoring a podium finish at the season opener in St. Petersburg, the 34-year-old has not bagged another silverware so far this season.
But, with the next race slated to take place at seemingly one of his hunting grounds, the Team Penske driver looks in shape to claim his first victory of the season. Newgarden has excelled at oval tracks, and sharing his motivation to claim a victory soon, the former IndyCar champion said (via IndyCar):
"We can win any weekend."
Newgarden is not the only Team Penske driver to have not won a race this season, as both Scott McLaughlin and Will Power have failed to achieve this feat in the seven races held so far.
