Former IndyCar driver turned motorsports pundit Danica Patrick recently shared three tips to stay healthy. She highly recommended lifting weights while surprisingly making a 'cardio is pointless' remark.
Racing drivers are required to maintain certain fitness standards to have a long career, and Danica Patrick certainly did. Her professional driving career at the top level of American motorsports began in 2005 with her debut in IndyCar and lasted until the 2018 Indy 500. Moreover, other than competing in America's highest class of open-wheel racing, she also competed in NASCAR's Cup Series and Xfinity Series.
In line with her overall experience around fitness, she recently showed up on the Believe in the Good podcast with Haley Dillon and revealed three tips to live a healthy life. Patrick said (20:37 - 21:11):
"So the first, few things, I mean, these are the things that I would do and like I'll and bridge that with what anyone would be doing. Um, number one, lift weights like 100% all the way, Flush cardio down the freaking toilet, it's pointless. If you lift right, you have cardio going on."
"So, I would say lift weights which isn't an untouchable thing. It's best to have a trainer which makes its more expensive, but lifting weights is great. And walking, I don't know if its just a pairing of what to do with fitness. "
Giving two more tips, Patrick recommended a 'gouache lymphatic drainage' treatment and regular protein intake.
Danica Patrick, during her racing career, competed in a total of 191 NASCAR Cup Series races, 61 Xfinity races, and 116 IndyCar races. Moreover, she even amassed a victory in the 2008 Indy Japan 300 to become the first woman to win the IndyCar race.
Danica Patrick loves 'coming back' to the Indy 500
After finishing her career at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2016, Patrick was spotted during last month's Indy 500. After the event, she expressed her love for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.
The 43-year-old also had her family at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, taking in the incredible experience at the Indianapolis. In line with this, she came up with a post via Instagram and admitted that she loves coming back to the Indy 500 events to spend time with her family.
"Also grateful for my family and for a safe Indy 500 yesterday. I love coming back for the race and to spend time with my family, who all lives here. We capped off this year’s trip with some golf at the Brickyard Crossing, which has 4 holes inside the track. So cool," Patrick wrote.
During her racing days, Danica Patrick registered one win, seven podium finishes and three poles in IndyCar. Notably, she was chosen as the Rookie of the Year in her debut IndyCar season in 2005.
Her exploits in the 200-lap Indianapolis Motor Speedway event are well known as she secured a sensational podium finish in the 2009 edition of the race. Danica Patrick managed a third-place finish behind Dan Wheldon and four-time Indy 500 winner, Helio Castroneves. It emerged as the best finish by a female driver ever in IndyCar's history.
