Arrow McLaren driver Christian Lundgaard recently spoke about racing at the WWT Raceway and Chip Ganassi's Alex Palou's dominance this season. Lundgaard drives the #7 Arrow McLaren car powered by Chevrolet.
The 23-year-old driver recently appeared on the Speed Freaks podcast, where he discussed various topics, from racing at the WWT Raceway to beating Palou.
Lundgaard was questioned about what it will take to beat Palou, who is having a spectacular season. The former replied while talking about how it mostly feels like the Chevrolet-powered cars against the #10 car of Chip Ganassi.
"I think the Chevy cars have been a lot stronger than what the results really show. I definitely think that the Chevy car should have won the 500 this year. Obviously, we're all in this situation of Why does this guy keep winning, right? And how do they do it? At the end of the day, you gotta give them kudos. They're doing an incredible job on that 10 car," he said (0:17 onwards).
"But I think that again proves the point that, you know, the 5 car, the 7 car, and a bunch of other Chevys have been really fast throughout the season, and we've been right there, but every single time, it's the 10 car beating all of us, right? So it kind of feels like sometimes it's Chevy VS just the 10 car. And that's what messed up about the whole situation is, you know, I just feel like it's become everybody against the 10 car," he added.
Christian Lundgaard went head-to-head with Alex Palou at the Thermal Club Grand Prix held on March 23. Palou qualified in third place during the race, while Lundgaard qualified in second. But he was soon overtaken by Palou during the final few laps of the race. Palou took his second victory while the Dane had to settle for a third-place finish.
Christian Lundgaard's 2025 season is off to a decent start. He qualified in fifth place at the maiden race of the season, the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg, held on March 2, and finished the race in eighth place. At the Children's of Alabama Indy Grand Prix held on May 4, the Danish driver qualified in seventh spot and wrapped up the race in second spot.
Christian Lundgaard stays optimistic about winning the IndyCar title despite the points gap
Arrow McLaren driver Christian Lundgaard recently opened up about putting up a fight to Alex Palou for the IndyCar Series title. The Danish driver is confident about being in contention for the title fight by the end of the season.
While talking to Motorsports.com, the 23-year-old driver spoke about focusing on his own race and how the #10 Chip Ganassi Racing team cannot win every race. He said (via Motorsports.com):
"They’re going to have bad weekends. They can’t win every weekend. I know that’s what it looks like right now. But at the end of the day, we need to focus on what we can control. After that, I’m pretty confident that we can be in the mix at the end of the year, and that’s all we can hope for."
Christian Lundgaard is fourth in the drivers' championship with 205 points, 106 points adrift of Alex Palou.
