The 2025 Indy NXT Detroit Grand Prix was an extremely chaotic race. Quite a few cars went into the barriers around the tight street circuit, and Hailie Deegan has deemed the race a "frustrating" one.
Hailie Deegan started the 45-lap Grand Prix from P18 on the grid, but she was only able to make up two places to end her outing in P16. Deegan, via her YouTube channel, has come up with an in-depth verdict on her overall outing.
"Well guys, that was probably the most frustrating race of my entire career. I've had some frustrating races, and that was one of the more frustrating races. I was starting pretty deep in the field, got through turn one, and they started super quick before like the rear kind got kind of bunched up. So there was a little bit gap to the front," Deegan said (13:12 onwards).
Hailie Deegan finished her 45-lap outing just behind Nolan Allaer, Liam Sceats, and James Roe, who finished P13, P14, and P15, respectively.
Hailie Deegan's take on 2025 Indy NXT 'opportunity'
While Hailie Deegan cut out an extremely frustrated figure following her outing in the 2025 Detroit Grand Prix, she was fairly excited and raring to go about her INDY NXT 2025 opportunity last year.
Deegan had expressed her excitement at securing an opportunity to race in the IndyNXT in October 2024.
"I am excited about the opportunity and look forward to working with a proven program in HMD Motorsports. I have much to learn, but I am ready to go. The team brings a wealth of knowledge for me to pull from, and I look forward to soaking up as much of that as possible before my race debut next March in St. Petersburg," Deegan was quoted as saying by INDY NXT.
The 2025 Indy NXT season is five rounds down, and Hailie Deegan is currently in 18th place in the drivers' standings with 68 points. She is behind the likes of Tommy Smith, Evagoras Papasavvas, James Roe, Bryce Aron, Ricardo Escotto, Niels Koolen, and Sebastian Murray, who make the places from P17 to P11. Dennis Hauger, the driver of the #28, is currently leading the standings with 241 points.
Before competing in IndyNXT this year, the 23-year-old had previously competed in top American motorsports like the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and the Xfinity Series.
She made 68 appearances in the Truck Series and was able to put on board 18 in the Xfinity Series.
Next up on the 2025 Indy NXT race calendar is the Grand Prix at the World Wide Technology Raceway. The event is slated to take place next week, June 14-15.
The 23-year-old Deegan would hope for a strong outing for the HMD Motorsports team in Madison, Illinois.
