IndyCar owner Roger Penske is set to receive delivery of the one-off Porsche road car derived from the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship contender, the Porsche 963. The street version of the car is said to be valued at over $3 million (per The Detroit News).

The Porsche 963 is the successor of the 919 hybrid, which raced in the endurance championships. The car was first unveiled in 2022 and has been participating in the WEC and IMSA for the last couple of years. Porsche, in collaboration with Team Penske, has found success in the endurance championships, winning the 2024 IMSA SCC constructors' championship and the drivers' title.

Following the success with Team Penske, Porsche will honor Roger Penske with the one-off developed street version of the Porsche 963. The car will be named the Porsche 963 RSP, honouring Penske's initials (Roger Searle Penske).

The 963 race car is being converted into a street-legal version at the Atlanta factory. Roger Penske visited the factory to see the 963 RSP in person. Speaking about the car, he said (via the Detroit News):

“It certainly looks and feels like a true Porsche sportscar. I am so honored that Porsche produced this special 963 RSP — I think I will always have a special connection to this vehicle, and certainly to everyone at Porsche.”

“I’m not sure I would drive the 963 RSP as a daily commuter, though that certainly would be a fun drive to the office,” added Roger Penske.

Since the 963 RSP is derived from the endurance racing beast, it is deemed the fastest Porsche. The 963 RSP also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Count Rossi 917, the street version of the Porsche 917 endurance racing car. The 963 RSP is only the second time Porsche has developed a road-legal car from the endurance racing scene.

The 963 RSP will pay homage to Count Rossi and will be painted in the iconic silver that featured on the 917.

When will Roger Penske get the delivery of the Porsche 963 RSP?

The Porsche 963 RSP is ready and will be on display at the Circuit de la Sarthe during the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which is just on the horizon. Team Penske and Porsche have achieved loads of success, but have still not won the mythical 24 Hours of Le Mans, with Ferrari taking the victory in the last couple of years.

After the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 963 RSP will be displayed at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. The car will then be taken to the Goodwood Festival of Speed along with the 917.

After all this, Roger Penske will take delivery of the 963 RSP at Monterey Historics in California, where it will be added to the Team Penske owners' car collection.
