Khelo India 2019: Sachin, Tulika and Reetika help Delhi end judo on a high note

Pune, January 13:  Delhi, led by India internationals Sachin Malik (Boys Under-21; above 100kg), a Macau Asian Cup 2018 bronze medallist and Tulika Maan (Girls Under-21; above 78kgs), who bagged gold at Macau underlined their domination with three more gold medals to finish with a tally of a complete dozen in the judo competition that ended at the Khelo India Youth Games 2019 here on Sunday.

Delhi topped in both the Under-17 and Under-21 sections with six gold in each category. On the final day of the judo competition, while Delhi claimed three, Punjab won two while the other three were shared one each by Haryana, Manipur and hosts Maharashtra.

The third winner was Reetika Dahiya (Girls Under-21; Below-63kgs).

Sangli-born Tanvin Tamboli helped take Maharashtra’s final tally of gold medals to three. The Krida Prabodhini (Sports Institute) trainee Tanvin bested Sanju Choudhary of Rajasthan by an Ippon to emerge victorious.

Maharashtra added four bronze medals to their tally, a feat matched by Kerala in the eight finals on the day.

Punjab began their day by winning the first final when 2018 Lebanon Junior Asian Championship, bronze medallist Harshdeep Singh Brar got the better of Haryana’s Arun in the Under-21 boys below-81kgs final. Punjab’s other gold came from Macau Asian Cup bronze medallist Jobandeep Singh who proved too good for Basit Rafiq Sofi of Jammu and Kashmir in the below-100kgs class.

Above 100kgs: Sachin Malik (Del) bt Yash Patel (Guj) by Ippon; Bronze: Krishan Raj R. (Ker) and Vaibhav P (Mah)

Girls Under-21

Below-63kgs: Reetika Dahiya (Del) bt Kabra Altaf (J&K) – by an Ippon; Bronze: Padma (HP) and Binisha N.B. (Ker)

Below-70kgs: Tanvin Tamboli (Mah) bt Sanju Choudhary (Raj) – by an Ippon; Bronze: Santosh (Har) and Simranjeet Kaur (Pun)
