Phew! That was quite a mad encounter we witnessed alright. What's with these India-Bangladesh heart-stoppers anyway? We could be in for more thrills and spills in the second one-dayer come Wednesday (December 7) so do join us for our coverage of the same right here on Sportskeeda, while also making sure to stay tuned to further cricketing news and action from around the globe on this very platform, including the final day of the Rawalpindi Test between Pakistan and England that seems to be headed for an interesting finish of its own tomorrow. For the moment though, this is the troika of Maanas Upadhyay, Pratyush Rohra and Sooryanarayanan Sesha taking your leave. Thank you so much for joining us today and we hope you enjoyed our coverage. See you around soon - have a great week ahead! Goodbye now!
They will surely be a very delighted lot today will the Bangladeshis. They took the series lead the last time India were here for a one-day series in 2015 and won the whole thing altogether. And how, they're on track to do it again. Mind you, the chase wasn't a smooth one by any stretch and they will have areas to work upon. Having said that, it doesn't take the sheen out of what was a famous victory. Loads to ponder over for India though alright - they didn't have enough runs to play with but once they had that in their grasp after the ninth wicket, they had no business letting it slip out of their palms. Their fielding remains the proverbial banana skin while their bowling plans for that last wicket looked clueless as well. They have a couple of days off to sort things out before the two teams return here on Wednesday.
Litton Das (Bangladesh captain): Very very happy. We were nervous in the dressing room but the way they played in the last 6-10 overs, I really enjoyed Miraz's batting. (Cautious approach) It just happened. They bowled really well in the middle, especially Siraj and Shardul. That spell in the middle shifted the momentum on their side. When me and Shakib bhai were batting, we thought we could get there easily but we lost a few wickets. I trust Afif and Miraz to do the job in these situations but I can't explain how well Mehidy has batted tonight. Very pleased with that.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the Player of the Match. Here's what he has to say: All credit goes to the Almighty. It was a great opportunity. I'm really happy. Thanks a lot and I'm really excited. Me and Mustafizur had only one thought - to believe. I just told him to stay calm and play 20 balls and I will try. I really enjoyed a lot. In the morning the wicket was a little tricky. Definitely I'm very very happy because India is a strong side so it's a memorable performance for me.
Rohit Sharma (Indian captain): It was a very close game. We did pretty well to come back into that position. We didn't bat well. 184 wasn't good enough. We bowled pretty well and kept them under pressure but they held their nerves to get the required runs at the backend. If you look back to how we bowled from ball one, it was good. Of course, we would have liked to get some wickets at the end but we did that in the first 40 overs. You've got to take wickets to win games like these and we did that decently for most parts. (Under par score) We could have got 30-40 runs more, at least. KL and Washy were batting well, so we thought we could get a partnership there. We lost wickets at crucial times but we have to learn from that. Conditions are not an excuse because we play in these conditions ourselves. That's something we'll need to address. (Guys on the tour of NZ having trouble to adjust?) I don't really know much a couple of practice sessions will help. The guys have an idea about playing on these kinds of surfaces but it's about dealing with the pressure situations. That's something these guys will learn. We just have to learn how to handle the pressure and turn things around. We know exactly what we need to do. Hopefully, we can turn up and do that in the next game.
Did India miss a trick with not bowling Sundar out earlier? Hindsight or not, the post-mortem on how India let it slip out of their hands like a bar of soap will go well into the night!
Mehidy Hasan Miraz - 41 (39) | Shakib Al Hasan - 5/36 KL Rahul - 73 (70) | Mohammed Siraj - 3/32
This is only Bangladesh's second win in 19 matches against India in all formats. Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the hero of the hour for the hosts, who were down and half-buried at one stage. The absolute scenes at the Shere Bangla Stadium as Shakib Al Hasan and a few members of the Bangladesh camp now lift Mehidy on their shoulders. If you didn't know him before, you sure do now. What a superstar!
Allan Donald and Russell Domingo also celebrate alongside the entire team and it's a memorable day for Bangladesh cricket, there is no doubt about that. It started off in some style too, with the hosts restricting India to a minimal total. Apart from KL Rahul's half-century, none of the Indian batters managed to put runs on the board.
In reply, though, India did their best to return the favor. Chahar dismissed Shanto in the very first over and India continued to build on from there, chipping away at regular intervals. The major turning point came during the 35th over when the partnership between Rahim and Mahumudullah was broken.
From seemingly cruising at one stage at 128-4, the hosts collapsed to 136-9. At that moment, the initiative was handed back to India but the Men in Blue failed to capitalize on it. A historic unbeaten 51-run partnership between Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mushtafizur Rahman eventually managed to get Bangladesh over the line, with the former playing a major role to write his name in the history books.
India didn't help their cause at the backend though, it must be said. The fielding was sloppy and not up to the mark with the lofty standards they set for themselves. Of course, the dropped catch from KL Rahul off Mehidy proved to be a game-changer in hindsight. That'll give the visitors something to ponder about.
All in all, this game was also a great advert for One Day Internationals. It had its ebbs and flows throughout, keeping everyone at the edge of their seats. Eventually, it's Bangladesh who emerge victorious, only defeating India for the sixth time in their ODI history. What a game. What an atmosphere.

45.6 Deepak Chahar to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, CHIPPED INTO THE GAP! MEHIDY HASAN MIRAZ, THE MAYOR OF MIRPUR! Oh build him a statue, name a stand and do whatever you can to honor him Bangladesh, because this man has held his nerve to pull off the unthinkable. Unbelievable scenes as the Bangladeshis storm onto the park. Overpitched and angling away well outside the off stump and all he does is get half-forward to chip it into the gap past a packed off-side field as it scurries along to the sweeper cover fence. Off comes the helmet as he takes off into a sprint. He has done something scarcely-believable today in Mirpur. My goodness, what a game we've witnessed. Jailbreak for Bangladesh as they scrape through by 1 wicket!
Rohit is having a chat with Chahar. All the fielders should be inside the circle at this stage, you'd think.
He has made it! Scores are level! Fittingly, Mehidy Hasan Miraz has the chance to score the winning runs. 50 partnership comes up with that single.
45.5 Deepak Chahar to Mustafizur Rahman, DIRECT HIT! Referred upstairs but the Fizz might have made it! Full-ish in length on leg stump, Mustafizur tucks it to short mid-wicket before sprinting across the deck. Rohit picks it up to his right and nails the one stump he has to aim at at the bowler's end. The Indians don't seem confident though!
And that's why! The Fizz is home and dry as he slides his bat in. NOT OUT! And it's also the 50-run partnership up for the final wicket! Goodness me, scenes in Mirpur!
A slip, backward point, short square leg, short mid-off and mid-on
Mehidy does the right thing by walking up to Mustafizur to have a word. Bangladesh do not need anything silly at this stage. The field comes in on the off-side. Still a few gaps on the leg-side though.
45.4 Deepak Chahar to Mustafizur Rahman, dug into the track on middle stump and the Fizz does what he has to. Swings hard with a swivel attempting to heave it across the line but he can't connect
Another raucous cheer rings around the ground. Chahar has overstepped. Free hit loading. Bangladesh need 2 runs to win and Allan Donald is loving every bit of this in the dugout!
45.4 Deepak Chahar to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, ON THE BOUNCE! Goes short again on off stump and Mehidy brings out a controlled short-arm pull well square of deep mid-wicket. The batters cross over though as the fielder picks it up on time. Oh dear - Chahar oversteps as well! Free hit awaiting the Fizz and he has the chance to wrap things up!
45.3 Deepak Chahar to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, AHH! Dug into the track as he takes pace off. Just inside the tramline as Mehidy hops back attempting a slash but is undone by the tennis ball bounce
Mehidy Hasan Is One Of The Rare Cricketers In This Side Who Holds His Nerve And Composure All The Time And He's Young. Should Be Their Next Captain
