That brings us to the end of our coverage of a truly fascinating contest. Bangladesh are through to the final four - they will face India in the semis. The Malaysia cricket team will return home with their heads held high - they proved their mettle all right - taking the fight to the very end! We will return with cricketing action from the Asian Games in a couple of days' time with the semi-finals - keep an eye on our tabs for the same, and of course, a lot more! Malaysia had it, they almost had it when Virandeep slashed one past the vacant backward point area to bring the equation down to 6 off the last 10 deliveries. Rishad Hossain then went on to redeem himself in some way, going for just one off the next four deliveries with the wicket of Hafizs - off a quality delivery at that! Virandeep wanted the strike for the entirety of the final over, he backed himself upon winning it for Malaysia, but Afif proved to be too good for him with his lengths and flat-brisk deliveries.

The fact that Malaysia's lower-order produced a fightback of such sort will also be a takeaway for them - they have been heavily reliant on their top-order for runs. Afif Hossain and Ripon Mondol helped Bangladesh get through to the Malaysian middle order within the powerplay overs, and it needed some fight from opener Syed Aziz to give Malaysia some impetus going into the middle overs.

Aziz, along with Virandeep, was doing a great job in seeing Bangladesh's spinners off, while taking the aerial route every now and them. Unfortunately for him and Malaysia, he tried to hit Rakibul with the turn and holed out, and from then on, Malaysia's hopes laid with the well-built figure of Virandeep. The spin-bowling all-rounder did not disappoint, taking the game deep with Vijay Unni and then Ainool Hafizs, and landing a few decisive blows in the form of sixes every now and then.

Bangladesh's ploy to get some overs in from their seamers in the middle overs backfired, as Malaysian got their noses in front at that stage. Virandeep had plenty of impetus by then, and he tried to get the job done. But the wicket of Hafizs, who wasn't doing too bad for himself, turned the tide in a way - Virandeep couldn't afford to pinch singles with Anwar Rahman in the middle, he had only one option of going big and sealing the game in the final over, and that proved to be the undoing. Afif held his nerve really well, using all of his experience, and now, Bangladesh will heave a sigh of relief and look forward to playing India in the next round.

Ohhhhhh, what could have been! Afif Hossain bails Bangladesh out big time, going for a mere 2 runs off the final over! Muhammad Anwar Rahman is inconsolable as the Bangladesh players walk up to him to offer words and hugs of comfort. So near, yet so far for Malaysia - in spite of the lack of experience amongst them, they sure did give one of the big boys a fight till the end, something for them to take away from this event!
