Commentary

Player of the Match: Grace Harris

A clinical victory for the Brisbane Heat Women as they bossed the game for a large chunk of the game. Losing the bat flip and batting first, they scored 170-6 at the end of their 20 overs. Led by Georgia Redmayne and Grace Harris, both the openers put on 139 for the first wicket. A muddle at the end ensured they don't go past 180-200 mark. A controlled display of bowling at the end of by Hurricanes' bowlers.

Rachel Priest and Ruth Johnston came out to open for the Hurricanes in the conquest for 171. Priest got off to a great start with some exquisite boundaries in front of the square on the offside. But she soon perished as she was trapped plumb in front of the wicket by Heat skipper Jess Jonassen. Mignon du Preez walked out at no. 3 to join Ruth Johnston in the middle who followed the footsteps of the skipper as Sippel struck on the pads for her first wicket.

Mignon du Preez was the string that Hurricanes held onto for a successful chase and she showed all signs of it scoring 73 off 49 deliveries which consisted of 9 boundaries and a six. She put pressure right back on the Heat who struck two wickets in the powerplay and thought the job was half done by getting Priest out early in the chase. Richa Ghosh had joined her at no. 4 in the powerplay and wasted no time whatsoever and meant business. Both of them picked their bowlers. Yadav and Harris were the targets as Jonassen and Hancock were bowling beautifully from their ends.

Ghosh soon was knocked over by Jonassen who returned with match figures of 3-25 in her 4 overs. Nicola Carey joined in du Preez at no.5 and took her time initially and provided great support to du Preez who was going berserk from her end. Tragedy stuck Hurricanes when du Preez handed out a simple catch to Georgia Redmayne off Anneke Bosch's bowling in the fourth delivery of the 17th over. Things just went downhill after that and no beam of hope for the Hurricanes left as they kept sliding down the mountain tripping at the end to register a defeat from the jaws of victory.

Grace Harris was named Player of the Match for her scintillating 75 off 51 deliveries.

With 5 wickets falling in the last 4 overs, the Hurricanes went from 137-3 to 156/9 at the end of 20 overs.
