Match drawn; Mumbai pocket three points on first innings lead, Chhattisgarh take one point.
That crucial 1-run lead has proved to be the difference in the end as Mumbai take three points on the back of a draw against Chhattisgarh. On the playing front, the biggest takeaway ought to be skipper Ajinkya Rahane striking form with an unbeaten 56 in the second innings even as Shardul Thakur was dismissed for 31 by Ajay Mandal, who took his fifth wicket. The captains shook hands with the score reading 253/6 and with 30 points, Mumbai have booked their spot in the quarterfinals with a game to spare in the group stage.
Lunch on Day 4 - Mumbai 188/5, lead Chhattisgarh by 189 runs in the 2nd innings.
Ajay Mandal bagged four wickets this morning as Chhattisgarh kept chipping away at the Mumbai lineup. But the visitors remain firmly primed to pocket three points on the first innings lead at least with five wickets still in hand. A series of unconverted starts has been the storyline of this innings even as Bhupen Lalwani backed up his ton in the first essay with 59 in the second. Ajinkya Rahane (18*) and Shardul Thakur (5*) will now aim at pushing this lead forward for another hour at least so as to eliminate a loss for good.
Stumps on Day 3 - Mumbai 97/1, lead Chhattisgarh by 98 runs in the 2nd innings.
Not too many overs were possible in the last session of the day but Chhattisgarh managed to prize out the wicket of Prithvi Shaw for 45. Bhupen Lalwani (40*) and Amogh Bhatkal (6*) are the incumbent batters and they will want to bat out as much time as possible to eliminate a loss out of the equation. Chhattisgarh must look to trigger a collapse similar to what they did in the first innings. Can they do so?
Tea on Day 3 - Mumbai 58/0, lead Chhattisgarh by 59 runs in the 2nd innings.
In a thrilling passage of play, Chhattisgarh fell agonizingly short of taking the lead as they were bowled out for 350, handing Mumbai a crucial 1-run lead in the process. It could well prove to be monumental should this game end in a draw and Tushar Deshpande was the hero as he trapped Amandeep Khare in front for 143 to bag his fifth wicket. Openers Prithvi Shaw (35*) and Bhupen Lalwani (22*) then picked up from where they left off on Day 1 and they will aim towards powering Mumbai forward at a brisk pace.
Lunch on Day 3 - Chhattisgarh 327/8, trail Mumbai by 24 runs in the 1st innings.
Captain Amandeep Khare fought brilliantly on the third morning to take Chhattisgarh within touching distance of Mumbai's first innings score of 351. Unbeaten on 120, he powered along nearly single-handedly even as Ajay Mandal started off briskly before perishing for 21 as his Chennai Super Kings teammate Tushar Deshpande accounted for his wicket. In fact, Deshpande picked up three wickets this morning to take his tally to four and should this game not produce a result, the half an hour post Lunch could prove to be the most decisive phase of the contest.
Stumps on Day 2 - Chhattisgarh 180/4, trail Mumbai by 171 runs in the 1st innings.
Another session where the honors were shared although Chhattisgarh won't be too disappointed. That said, having lost four wickets already, they need a massive partnership now in order to get close to Mumbai's first innings total. Skipper Amandeep Khare (35*) holds the aces on that front even as Sanjeet Desai was dismissed for 41. Shardul Thakur, on the other hand, has sent down 12 overs for 37 runs without managing a wicket yet.
Tea on Day 2 - Chhattisgarh 102/2, trail Mumbai by 235 runs in the 1st innings.
An even session in Raipur although hosts Chhattisgarh remain primed to match Mumbai's first innings score at the very least. The opening stand between Shashank Chandrakar (56) and Rishabh Tiwari (25) was worth 87 runs before both were nipped in the bud in quick succession. Ashutosh Singh (6*) and Sanjeet Desai (8*) will now look to drive the innings forward for the hosts.
Lunch on Day 2 - Chhattisgarh 39/0, trail Mumbai by 312 runs in the 1st innings.
After a dominant opening stand of 244, Mumbai's batting lineup came crashing down as they stumbled to 351 all out in their first innings. Ashish Chouhan bagged a six-wicket haul while Suryansh Shedge's 29 was the highest score after the hundreds posted by the openers. Chhattisgarh have begun steadily with the bat but all eyes will be on Shardul Thakur, as he returns to action from injury. Can the 'Lord' break the game open with the ball for Mumbai?
Stumps on Day 1 - Mumbai 310/4 in the 1st innings.
Finally, a session that goes Chhattisgarh's way! The moment they managed to break that opening stand and dismiss Prithvi Shaw for 159, wickets came at a more frequent rate with Ashish Chouhan bagging three wickets. Ajinkya Rahane's wretched run of form continued as he managed a solitary run although Bhupen Lalwani notched up a century of his own before he was dismissed for 102. Suryansh Shedge (17*) and Hardik Tamore (1*) are the overnight batters who will be keen to power Mumbai to a big total.
Tea on Day 1 - Mumbai 242/0 in the 1st innings.
The misery and toil continues for Chhattisgarh's bowlers. Bhupen Lalwani has moved on to 71 while Prithvi Shaw continues to make merry, with his score now reading 158. A double-century is in sight for the superstar right-handed opener and Chhattisgarh will be desperate for something to give in after the Tea break.
Lunch on Day 1 - Mumbai 140/0 in the 1st innings.
In just his second game post comeback from injury, Prithvi Shaw butchered a century in the first session of Mumbai's sixth round clash against Chhattisgarh. Batting on 101 off 107 deliveries with thirteen fours and two sixes, the prodigious opener was at his fluent best with the Chhattisgarh attack having no answers at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. Bhupen Lalwani (37*) is playing second fiddle with Mumbai aiming to dominate this contest. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane is back in the fold too having missed the last game with injury.
