Right so, that was a rather lop-sided contest as the England Champions triumphed comfortably over the South African legends and got their campaign underway. For now, it will be the pair of Soumarya and Lavil signing off. Stay tuned to Sportskeeda and see you soon!
Phil Mustard(England Champions)- We just went out there and went for it and tried to see how much we could get in the first few overs. I don't play a lot of club cricket and it's mostly these legends leagues. The keeping has been coming off good and I'm glad that I could do well.
Jacques Kallis (South Africa Champions captain): Very tough, we were outplayed in every department. One of the days where nothing went right and we'll look to bat soon. It was tough to bat early on and should get used to it. The boys haven't played in a long time, they getting there and we should be good from the next game. Feeling good, the young kids are keeping me up for it
The Presentation will begin soon!
England Champions 138/1 in 11 overs Phil Mustard 84*(35) | Rory Kleinveldt 1/14 Ian Bell 18*(20)
Pietersen and Mustard got off to a flyer as they hammered Ntini for 27 runs in one over. It was an incredible start for them as they continued with the tempo in the next few overs. Pietersen's dismissal towards the end of the powerplay just slowed them down a bit but by then, the damage had been done and they were in the drivers seat.
The Mustard show continued as he brought his fifty and he ended up with 84 runs from 35 balls. Ian Bell came out to give him company and the former England legend played second fiddle as Mustard went berserk throughout the innings. In the end, it was an absolute demolition job from England Champions as they mauled over the Proteas with 9 wickets and 54 balls remaining.
Rory Kleinveldt was the only bowler who managed to pick up a wicket as he got Pietersen. The rest of the Proteas bowlers looked really rusty including Imran Tahir who has been in the midst of competitive cricket. Makhaya Ntini and Vernon Philander, the two greats failed to make an impact as they had been taken to the cleaners and given some real treatment.
England Champions win by 9 wickets with 9 overs to spare.
