16:45 IST - Himachal Pradesh beat Jharkhand by 7 runs
Defending a total of 144 runs, Himachal Pradesh knew they needed a wicket as soon as possible to get their act in order. Vaibhav Arora ensured his captain Rishi Dhawan's demands were met as Kumar Kushagra departed for a golden duck. Arora bowled four overs on a trot and conceded only 15 runs.
Arora's tight bowling in the beginning put Jharkhand in the backfoot with pressure mounting on Saurabh Tiwary and Anand Singh. Just when they got things going, Ankush Bedi scalped both their wickets in a single over. It took Jharkhand 14 overs to reach the halfway mark of 72 runs and the match seemed way out of their hand.
In steps Anukul Roy, who had done the damage with his ball and fielding earlier, and gave the dampened Jharkhand unit a glimmer of hope. Nicknamed as Samastipur's Ravindra Jadeja, Anukul lived up to his billing with some ginormous maximums. With 15 runs required off 7 deliveries, he tried to go for one big heave and conceded his wicket cheaply.
Pankaj Jaswal was entrusted with the ball in his hand to bowl the final over and he got his line and length perfectly right as he allowed Jharkhand to score only seven runs. With a wicket off the final ball as well, Jharkhand fell short of the target by seven runs in the end.
OUTSIDE EDGE AND CAUGHT BEHIND! Himachal Pradesh wins the match by 7 runs. And, that means Jharkhand are officially out from the SMAT 2021.
