Commentary

With that comprehensive victory over Ireland, India cruise into the next stage of the ICC Under-19 World Cup. This also means that the match up between South Africa and Ireland now will be a virtual knockout. Nishant Sindhu, India captain: I'm really happy with the win. It was wonderful to see everyone follow through on their responsibilities and objectives. We had to focus early on and put those things (COVID19 instances in the camp) out of our minds, and the lads did a fantastic job. Support team is doing an excellent job of backing us up and providing us with all we need to succeed.

Tim Tector, Ireland captain: We have to give credit to India. They came out to bat and put pressure on us right from the beginning, from the very first ball. We didn't bowl especially well, but we did recover nicely later on. Because it was a fantastic surface, we were glad to limit them to 307 yards. It was always going to be difficult for us. We were placed on the back foot after losing early wickets. Perhaps we should have taken a more proactive approach. But, again, India must be commended; they did not provide us with any loose balls.

Harnoor Singh (Player of the match): It was quite difficult. The wicket was two-paced. We were struggling a bit at the start but it eased out and flattened out eventually. There was some pressure (with some players missing) but the partnership up top of quite important. There was pressure but we weren't too concerned about that. We were just trying to focus on playing our game as much as we can. He (Hangargekar) is the one who can do those things. We are confident in his abilities. We had VVS sir talking to us and telling us about the importance of experience. It was a good outing for us.

What a win, what a win for India! They are now into the quarter-finals of the under 19 world cup. This has been a dominant performance from the Indian side, they have not just won the match but also made a statement that their bench strength is good enough to win them matches. After having to drop some of their main players because of covid, the Indian side had no hesitation in outplaying Ireland in all three departments of the game.

Ireland needed a good start if they were to chase this target but they were off to the worst possible start. Doherty, Dickson and Vincent were back in the shed within 7 overs as the new ball duo of Kumar and Hangargekar gave the Irish top order a tough time.

Cox and Tector were looking to make a small recovery there, however, Garv Sangwan got rid of both of them before they could switch gears. Ireland were five down already but the spinners were yet to showcase their skills. Gautam, Tambe and Ostwal combined for the last five wickets and bowled Ireland out for 133 runs, giving India a comprehensive 174 run victory. As for Ireland, they did not have much to take out of this game as Scott MacBeth's knock could possibly be the only positive for them from this game.
