The captains are handed over the trophy and they share the honours, sealed and completed with a handshake between Pant and Maharaj. Both sides deserved it equally, considering the manner in which the first four games panned out. Whilst it would have been a cracker of a contest to finish off the series, it is only poetic that they share the spoils. Rishabh Pant (Indian skipper): It might get a little frustrating but there are a lot of positives. How the series was poised 0-2 at the starting and the way the whole team showed their character was great to see. Lots of positives to take from it. I think we are going in a pretty nice spot. We are finding new ways to win matches. There will be mistakes but as long as we keep learning from the mistakes, we will keep going forward. I can only think about giving my 100% each and every time I go out on the field as a player and a captain. It is for you guys to decide how I am doing as a captain but as a player and as a captain, I can only giving my 100% and keep improving. I think this is the first time I have lost these many tosses but it is not in my control (smiles). From an individual point of view, we will be looking to win the Test match in England and from a personal point of view, I will be looking to contribute more with the bat. That's the only thing I am looking forward to.
Keshav Maharaj (South African skipper): Yeah obvsiouly very disappointed that we could not get in a full game for the end of what has been an exciting tour. We started off pretty well but unfortunately could not get the end to the game. If you saw the way we played in the first three games, we tried a few combinations. We are still a work in progress. I wish the game could have gone on and we could have crossed the line but unforeseen weather is beyond our control. We hope we can have a future series against India as exciting as this one. We carried the confidence from past tours but it was a string Indian side we came up against so we did not want to take anything for granted.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been adjudged as the Man of the Series for picking up 6 wickets in 4 games. Here is what he had to say: Really proud. It doesn't matter if it goes to a bowler or a batsman. Winning the Man of the Series in a T20, it's always good. Always say that I don't want to talk much about it (injuries). Just want to focus on getting stronger. I have been playing for years now. Most of the times, I bowl two in the powerplay and two at the back. My role is always the same so the plans pretty much stay the same. Just vary according to the batsman. I think about how I can help the youngsters. I have been pretty blessed (captains he has played under).

On the face of it, this is probably the outcome this series deserved. After what South Africa did in the first couple of games, they would not have wanted to lose this series. Similarly, India, in the last two matches, probably did enough to set up this finale and earn a share of the spoils.
From a T20 World Cup perspective, this series has served its purpose, considering India have, more or less, answered some of the more pressing questions that were staring them in the face. Dinesh Karthik has re-emerged as a death-overs international force, alongside Hardik Pandya. Ishan Kishan has shown that he can hold his own against a high-quality pace attack. Avesh Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, too, have illustrated that they can make an impact if given enough opportunities.
South Africa, on the other hand, might just be worried about their top-order batting. The Dwaine Pretorius experiment worked a charm at Delhi but fell flat thereafter. Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock couldn't get going consistently either, meaning that a lot of the burden fell on David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen and Rassie van der Dussen. Each of them played substantial knocks but if South Africa are to last the distance at the T20 World Cup, they might need a bit more from their top order, especially during the powerplay.
Overall, both teams would not be too displeased with how this rubber materialised. There were occasions where their deficiencies came to the fore but that is always better than those being shown up at the big event. The conditions will be vastly different to what both sides experienced over the past fortnight but the pressure, coupled with the game-awareness that they've had to show, should hold them in good stead moving forward.
Umpires (Anil Choudhary and K Ananthapadmanabhan): Cut off time is 2 past 10. We will try to maximise the play if it is safe and playable. We have to wait, we cannot start with the drizzle. We are in touch (with the groundsmen) and we need to start a game with 2 past ten to constitute a game, which will be 5 overs-a-side. 25-30 minutes is the time required for mopping up operations. We too are waiting for the game to start. We are very positive but few things are out of our control. We do the calculations for 9 o'clock start, 9:10 start, 9:20 start and so on. It was playable before but this time the drizzle is a little more. We will work with the curator and see what we can do.
