So Ireland have confirmed their spot for the plate semifinals while Canada will be playing the plate playoffs. The best thing about this new format is that all the teams get to play 6 matches and the youngsters get an equal opportunity to prove their mettle. What a win, what a win for Ireland! After being asked to bat first, they have come out on top and managed to win this match comprehensively by 94 runs. Canada have been outplayed in all three departments today and this has been an incredible recovery from Ireland to win this match from 90/7 in the first innings.
Defending 180 was going to be difficult for Canada given the conditions but Ireland completely blew them away and made a mockery of their batting lineup. The new ball spell of Wilson and Doherty had Canada on the backfoot with their reliable openers going for single-digit scores. Once the pacers had their fun, the spinners joined the party after the powerplay and added salt to the injury for Canada.
The spinners made sure that Canada never had a settled partnership as they kept picking up wickets. It was a disappointing performance from the Canadian batters as Johal Singh and Kairav Sharma was the only ones who managed to enter the double digits. Reuben Wilson was the pick of the bowlers for Ireland as he bagged three scalps and made a statement at the young age of 15 that he belongs here.
