As has been a tradition with the Indian team, the captain retracts to the background having handed it over to the young lad, Umran Malik. He holds the trophy aloft as India take the series 2-0. Mind you, we were looking the prospect of Pandya and Andy Balbirnie posing together with it. This game went down to the wire and some alright! At the end of it all, we have learnt that India have quite the selection quandary to solve once their next series comes along against England while Ireland, as they've shown over the years, are no minnows or pushovers by any stretch. They next take on New Zealand at home and will be itching to make a statement there.

Hardik Pandya (India Captain): To be honest, I was not (worried). I was trying to keep all the pressure out of the equation and be in the present. At that pace of Umran, it was going to be tough for them to get 18 runs. I know they were going to come out and show what exactly they had. They played some amazing shots and credit to them to take the game as deep as they did. At the same time credit to our bowlers for holding their nerve. (On the experience in Ireland) It was fantastic - the crowd, i think their favorite boys are Dinesh and Sanju. I'm very happy they got to see them play. At the same time, it was a great experience to come and play in this part of the world. Even when I've played before, a lot of support comes for India, a lot of passion as well. Thank you everyone, who supported us throughout. My love and best wishes for them. (How proud is he of the youngsters in the team?) Absolutely proud - as a child and a youngster it's a dream to play for the country. To get a chance to play for the country is always going to be special. To lead the country and win your first series is very special. Happy for Deepak Hooda - he was brilliant and so was Umran.

Andy Balbirnie (Ireland Captain): (Mood in the dressing room at the moment) We're all pretty good Not often do you get close to chasing 226. We knew there was only one way to go about it. Very disappointed to have fallen short but a great game. (The plan with Paul Stirling) To make full use of the Powerplay, no two ways about that. I thought Paul batted brilliantly - in the first over he went after Bhuvi and set the tone. I obviously took a bit more time to get going but eventually did. The rest of the guys came out and expressed themselves and they pretty much did. Our T20 cricket has been a bit up and down over the last couple of years, trying to find what kind of game we want to play. That sort of game today was pretty much what we want to play, especially with the bat. It's to keep developing that throughout the summer leading upto the World Cup in October. We play New Zealand next week in ODIs and then the T20s. We can't let this be a flash in the pan and need to keep playing like this.

Deepak Hooda is the Player of the Match for his blistering 104 off 57 balls. Let's hear from the man: I'm coming from a good IPL and I was trying to follow the same performances. The key point for me was to follow my intent and I've been doing it. I like playing in that (aggressive) manner and according to the situation. Nowadays I'm batting up the order so I get more time. Sanju is my childhood friend so it really feels good to get a partnership like this with a mate. I'm really happy for him as well. Ireland is really good - I really enjoyed playing them a lot. The have a lot of positives from this game. All the best to them. Thank you so much to all the fans for their support (a huge roar follows from the crowd).

Harshal Patel: We were comfortable (at the halfway mark). Most of the time when you get 225 you defend it. They played really well and came after us with some really good shots. It was a belter, but we held our nerve to finish the game. (On Umran Malik's last over) He held his nerve brilliantly. Defending 17 off the last over, the way the game was going, momentum was with them. But he held his nerve really well. (On the Irish batting) They played some exceptional shots. We were sort of surprised by the way they played today but there's no doubt that there's a lot of talent in the Irish setup.

Oh. My. Word. How are your heart rates folks? Ours are surely beating faster than the pace on Umran Malik's deliveries alright! It was that kind of game! 446 runs, 25 sixes and sheer carnage all the way in Malahide. In the end, though, India have managed to get out of jail. And only just!

Paul Stirling came out meaning business. He tore into Bhuvneshwar Kumar and an 18-run opening over set the tone for what was to follow. Despite Andy Balbirnie struggling for timing at the other end, Stirling ensured that the hosts racked up 50 inside four overs and sent shivers down the Indians' spines. The unthinkable seemed on, until Ravi Bishnoi's google castled Stirling.

Gareth Delany's run out could have sparked off a collapse, but skipper Balbirnie had other ideas. It was a real bizarre innings in the sense that out of his 60 runs, 54 of them came in fours and sixes across 10 deliveries. All those dot balls may hurt Ireland in hindsight, but if not for Balbirnie, they weren't getting any close. He was stumped much earlier as well with Ishan Kishan indulging in a bit of entertainment, although Bishnoi overstepping handed him and the hosts a lifeline.

Lorcan Tucker struggled and he ended up as Umran Malik's maiden international wicket. But Harry Tector was in the thick of it again, as he, alongside a pulverizing George Dockrell, tore the Indian attack to shreds. Not one of them seemed to have a clue and it was a hitting display of the highest order that was all but snatching the contest away from the visitors.

Eventually, it came down to a magnificent 18th over from Bhuvneshwar that swung the game back in India's favor. Harshal Patel was taken to the cleaners and it came down to Umran to defend 17 off the final over. His no ball so nearly cost them, but in the end, he managed to hold his nerve and take the visitors past the finish line.
