The Melbourne Stars secured a thrilling two-ball victory over the Melbourne Renegades, chasing down 169 runs in a nail-biting contest with two balls to spare. After winning the toss, the Stars invited the Renegades to bat first, looking to exploit the favorable bowling conditions.

The Renegades struggled initially against the Stars' pace duo of Joel Paris and Mark Steketee. Josh Brown and Jake Fraser-McGurk opened the batting, but their innings were marked by a cautious start. The duo struggled to negotiate the short-pitched deliveries of Paris and Steketee, and Brown eventually fell prey to Paris's precision. The Renegades' powerplay woes continued, with Fraser-McGurk departing after playing some impressive sixes. By the end of the powerplay, the Renegades were reeling at 21-2.
