That's it from Rome. We will be back on Monday with more ECS T10 action, this time from Bologna. Until then, it is goodbye from Team Sportskeeda!
Umar Shahzad set the tone with the ball picking up three top-order wickets and giving away just 17 runs in his two overs. Everybody chipped in with the ball after that. Muneeb Niazi picked up a couple of wickets, while Vajrala Reddy and Anil Kumar got one each to their name. The discipline was always there in the field and that was the difference between the two sides.
After putting up a par total of 102 on the board, they needed to get some quick wickets at the start and the bowlers delivered right from the outset. The dangerman Dinidu Marage was dismissed off the first ball of the chase and this put Roma CC right on the back foot. The batsmen timed the ball well but got dismissed playing rash shots. Wickets kept tumbling and the chase never got on the track. Pruthuvi Samarage played a lone hand of 37 at the end but it was hardly enough.
What a fairy tale has this been for Royal Roma! They lost the first six matches and scraped their way through to semifinal with wins against Kent Lanka who finished last in the league. Once into the playoffs, Royal Roma created an upset by defeating the table-toppers Asian Latina in the first semifinal. And they repeated the feat once again by beating Roma CC, who finished second in the group stage in the final. This is a comeback story that one would have difficulty in digesting if it were in a Bollywood movie. It doesn't change anything for Royal Roma though, they are taking the title home!
Royal Roma has defeated Roma CC by 14 runs to clinch the title!
