So, that is it from myself, Karthik Raj as I wrap up the coverage of this fixture. Do stay tuned to Sportskeeda with a lot cricketing action coming up on Friday!
Corey Anderson (San Francisco Unicorns Captain): "(About the amazing start) It certainly was. History night with the first match here at this venue. Great start for us. Finn Allen was sensational, so was Tim Seifert up at the top. You talk about getting bums on seats and Finn would have done that. Just glad we are on the right side of this match. Was nerve-wracking for a little while in the second innings but got through in the end. (On Hassan Khan) He is terrific and Raufy (Haris Rauf) as well. Need to make sure we keep moving forward. The history of Oakland Coliseum and putting on a show like that, great start for everyone.
Finn Allen (MVP of the Match): "In the Bay Area for the first time, nice to start strong. Got good bats (Laughs). (About the pitch) They have done a great job preparing the wickets and the out-field was great as well. We have got a very good squad, the local boys chipped in as well which is very nice. (Whether this could be a similar innings to the MLC like what Brendon McCullum's 158 was for IPL) The way the tournament is going, it has done very well. But yeah hopefully, it takes off for sure. The energy from the fans was great, thanks for coming out."
Finn Allen gets the 'MVP of the Match' award!
Time for the Post-match Presentation!
Glenn Maxwell (Washington Freedom Captain): "(About the venue) It is pretty impressive. (On what they could done differently) We could have got Finn Allen out earlier (Laughs) but he batted superbly. We could changed our pace. It probably changed a little bit under lights. We lost too many wickets in the middle and made it hard for us. (On Lockie Ferguson) He is tracking pretty well, hopefully will be available soon.
MATCH OVER!
San Francisco Unicorns won by 123 runs!
San Francisco Unicorns 269/5 (20) Washington Freedom 146/10 (13.1)
Rachin Ravindra 42 (17) | Mitchell Owen 39 (20)
Haris Rauf 3/30 (3.1) | Hassan Khan 3/38 (4)
A pretty one-sided affair in the end as San Francisco Unicorns seal a 123-run victory which is the largest margin of victory in MLC history. Haris Rauf, Hassan Khan and Carmi le Roux all with impressive figures considering the boundary dimensions and the nature of the pitch.
Chasing 270 for victory, Freedom needed a big start and they did get it as the duo of Mitchell Owen and Rachin Ravindra went berserk. Rachin was particularly sensational in the fourth over as he struck four consecutive sixes off Xavier Bartlett. In the next over, Haris Rauf did get create a chance to dismiss Owen but he spilled the return catch.
A few deliveries later, Rachin was caught superbly by Jake Fraser-McGurk at deep square-leg off Liam Plunkett's bowling. Plunkett could have had two in the same over as Owen holed out to deep mid-wicket but he had over-stepped! The Unicorns didn't have to wait for long to remove Owen though as he got into a mix-up with Jack Edwards and departed for a breezy 39 off 20 balls.
This is when the wickets started to tumble as Haris Rauf came back into the attack and got rid of both Glenn Maxwell and Glenn Phillips in the same over. Hassan Khan followed it up with two more wickets in the 9th as Andries Gous and Jack Edwards walked back to the hut. Carmi le Roux was next in line to pick up two wickets in an over as he accounted for the scalps of Obus Pienaar and Mukhtar Ahmed.
Hassan added a third wicket to his tally as Ian Holland miscued an attempted slog-sweep to deep mid-wicket. The last pair of Ben Sears and Saurabh Netravalkar entertained the crowd for a while until Rauf had the latter edge behind to Seifert. With that, the Freedom were rolled over for 146 as they lost 10 wickets for just 66 runs!
Saurabh Netravalkar has been dismissed for 9 runs off 7 balls
13.1 Haris Rauf to Saurabh Netravalkar, THAT IS IT! Full and angling in at 145.1 kph, Netravalkar tries to defend but he gets an inside-edge which is pouched nicely by Tim Seifert diving to his left. This wrap up the match as San Francisco Unicorns seal a 123-run victory to start their campaign on the perfect note in front of their home fans!
