South Africa have taken an unassailable lead in the two-match Test series. Not all have been happy with the series having just two matches, but it is the way it is. India will travel to Newlands with the hopes of making a comeback and leveling the series. It is not going to be easy to forget how this Test panned out, especially the second innings. But, as a professional team, that's something that you need to cautiously do to move on.
India are in a sort of transition phase with a relatively young batting and bowling line-up mixed with the experience of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravi Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah. The onus will be on these four players to gather the team and rally them forward. It is going to be a real tester, especially considering the form the South African bowlers are in.
Temba Bavuma and Dean Elgar will be elated with the way their bowling attack turned up for this Test. They were certainly missing the services of Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi, but Nandre Burger and Gerald Coetzee ensured that the quality was never lost. They were really impressive with the ball and just shows you the depth of fast bowling reserves in the Proteas camp.
Dean Elgar (stand-in captain for South Africa & Player of the Match): Feel pretty special. Better to laugh than to cry. Always wanted to contribute with big scores. It hasn't worked out at times, but it did today. Massive effort by bowlers to pick up 20 wickets. It was quite juicy. You have got to keep it nice and simple. Batting in Tests, you need to keep it simple. Game is pretty difficult, complex at times. Focus on the ball, play nice and straight. Wicket's like that, one's gonna come with your name on it. Got to ride the wave when it's in your way. Good partnerships with Tony, David and Jans. Jans showed the real talent that he has. You need fast bowlers and a spinners, ultimately you need those 20 wicket to win the series. Superb first spell by Rabada, and somebody like Nandre coming to the fore. That has been the shining light. Heap of rubbish and get rewards. Really great team rewards. Playing a two test series, you can't win if you don't win first. On their day, India is difficult to beat. Last international here, good to leave on a high.
Rohit Sharma - We were not good enough to win this Test match. We got a decent score in the first innings but we failed to exploit the conditions in the second half. Virat batted brilliantly but to win a Test match, we have to play collectively and we failed to do. We do understand what to expect and every individual has a plan on how to go about but we didn't adapt well. It's a boundary scoring ground but we have to understand the strengths of the bowlers and we didn't apply ourselves with the bat. It's difficult to take positives when you finish the Test match inside three days but there are some positives - KL with the way he batted in the first innings and the lot of bowlers haven't been here, so I don't want to be critical on them. We will regroup and come back stronger. It's tough to regroup after a loss like this but as a Sportsmen, we go through these times and we need to be ready for the next Test now

South Africa was certainly the final frontier for team India. But coming into this series, India would have been considered shoulder to shoulder with the hosts, if not slight favourites. Not many would have thought that the match would be over before stumps on Day 3.
At the close of play on Day 2, India still had a sniff to come back into the game by dismissing the South African lower order quickly in the morning session and gaining some momentum. But Dean Elgar just carried on from where he left off on the previous day and played one of the best knocks of his entire career. The partnership between him and Marco Jansen meant that India had a sizeable benefit coming into the second innings.
The start was always going to be the key. The pitch had offered enough help for the bowlers along with a hint of occasional excess bounce. The way the new ball was dealt with would set the key for either sides, and India had the start they were dreading for. Kagiso Rabada cleaned up Indian skipper Rohit Sharma with an absolute ripper and there was no real recovery from that point.
India lost Shubman Gill at the stroke of Team and went into the break with the score reading 62/3. KL Rahul was the last proper batter to give company for Virat Kohli, who was batting well at one end. But Rahul could not continue the rich vein of form that he displayed in the first innings. Burger pitched it up and tested the batters, eventually getting Rahul out for the second time in the match.
Once the partnership was broker, it was more of a procession. The bowling all-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Shardul Thakur at 7 & 8 was always a chance on a surface like this. Both got out cheaply and it was a matter of time the lower-order capitulated. Nandre Burger and Kagiso Rabada bowled with extreme control and venom, keeping on asking questions and not allowing the batters to settle. In the midst of all this, Virat Kohli marched onto his half-century and was the last man to be dismissed, which was more or less the only positive for India in their second innings.
Stat Alert: This is the worst defeat for India in South Africa. The previous worst loss was by an innings and 25 runs at this very ground in 2010.
In a decade where India have dominated Test cricket for the most parts, this is the fifth time that they have lost by an innings.
South Africa beat India by an innings and 32 runs to go 1-0 up in the series.
34.1 Marco Jansen to Virat Kohli, OUT! Rabada takes a stunner and India suffer an innings defeat. 14 wickets fell on the day and it's been action-packed throughout. The South African dugout looks elated and so are the players inside the field. Kohli looked the only one to have answers against this Proteas attack but with his aggressive approach, the inevitable has to happen and it did. He dances down the track and Jansen drags the length back. He plays a flat-batted pull and gets it to the left of Rabada at deep mid-on but the express pacer moves sideways to take it brilliantly, much to delight of the home fans
