Commentary

We now come to the conclusion of our coverage of the 2nd of a three-match T20 International series between these two sides. Aiden Markram (South Africa captain): Nice start. Nice crowd turned up in Durban, pretty bad not to play in front of them. Crowd pulled in here at St. George's tonight, nice to put up a show for them. Wicket was slightly on the slower side before the rain came along, it skidded along after that and made batting easier. Bit of rain helped us when we started out batting, the guys took the momentum along the innings. Sometimes you try and structure things too much in T20 cricket, if a match-up or a certain bowler works you don't change it. Shammo bowled incredibly well, happy they came up and executed their own plans. If the plans are in place, it's a step in the right direction. He's (Hendricks) has been fantastic, sort of doing it in his own way. Happy for him, he's adapted a leadership role in the batting unit in T20I cricket, and he's getting us to a fantastic start, allowing the rest of the line-up in getting the momentum forward. Ultimately, pick form players going into the World Cup. Couple of places will be up for grabs, can't really think of it now. Each guy's putting their hand up and doing their job.

Tabraiz Shamsi is the Player of the match, here is what he has to say: Yeah look I always back the celebration as my kids tell me to bring that celebration out so can't disappoint them. It's about pitching it in the right areas, to do it against India is a great thing. The last few times when I have played against India, I was off my radar. SKY is a brilliant batter. The captaincy from Markram was brilliant. I think the positive and the nice thing is that Rob has created a very nice environment. He has allowed to bring our family members which has kept the boys in good shape.

Suryakumar Yadav (India captain): It was a par score at that time but they batted beautifully in the powerplay and took the game away from us Thats the brand of cricket what I was talking about and that is what we will try to do. It was a bit tough but I told my boys we have to take this up on our strides as conditions will be difficult. The mood is always happy. Whatever happens on the ground that stays on the ground. I have told the boys to have a laugh outside the ground. Looking forward to Johannesburg.

A topsy-turvy chase it was, more so towards the end! This Indian outfit do know a way or two of putting up a fight, in spite of lacking resources at various aspects. The reduction in overs and target, though, evidently worked more in favour of the hosts. It was always bound to - South Africa had more batters capable of going after the bowling right from ball one, and while it took their entire middle order, the short cameos from Miller, Stubbs and Phehlukwayo took the hosts over the line!

The Proteas got to thank their openers - Reeza Hendricks in particular - for the most solid start. The opening burst from the Proteas top-order was integral in them gunning this target down with time to spare. Reeza Hendricks and Matthew Breetzke simply flew off the blocks, absolutely launching into Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh early on. South Africa had 38 in their first two overs itself, and were right on top of proceedings.

A complete breakdown in communication between the two openers, though, handed India a much-needed opening as Breetzke had to depart. Hendricks, having been joined by Heinrich Klaasen, kept at it, mauling the Indian attack to all parts. It was clean-hitting of the highest order, as South Africa piled up 67 off the 5-over powerplay, and India were in need of a couple of quiet overs in order to inflict some sort of pressure on the Proteas line-up.

The Indian bowlers then began pulling things back. The boundaries came along, but so did the wickets as the South African batters fell one after another trying to clear the boundary. But the equation remained in favour of the hosts, and with 12 needed off the last two, the hosts were on the brink. Phehlukwayo and Stubbs finished things off with time to spare, handing South Africa a 1-0 lead.

A clean strike from Phehlukwayo sees South Africa edge ahead in the 3-match T20I series! They had to take it deep as the Indian bowlers kept fighting back, but South Africa clinch the game by 5 wickets with well above an over to spare!

13.5 Ravindra Jadeja to Andile Phehlukwayo, SIX! South Africa win by 5 wickets. A flatter and shorter delivery from Jadeja, that was a bit down the leg side, Phehlukwayo stays deep in the crease and hammers this well over the deep square leg fence to finish the match off in style.

13.4 Ravindra Jadeja to Andile Phehlukwayo, Phehlukwayo comes down the track and Jadeja fired it on the pads, he just about get some bat on that towards the fine leg region and takes a couple.

13.3 Ravindra Jadeja to Tristan Stubbs, flatter a shade outside off, bunted away towards the deep extra cover region for a single.

Not quite off the middle, but productive enough! Target's down to single figures!

13.2 Ravindra Jadeja to Tristan Stubbs, FOUR! That could be the death blow for India. Wasn't a bad delivery from Jadeja, Stubbs goes for the reverse sweep and ends up getting a toppish edge which just about evades Arshdeep and trudges away to the fence.

13.1 Ravindra Jadeja to Andile Phehlukwayo, flatter on the pads, whipped away towards the deep square leg region for a single.

Mukesh might have gone for a few, but has done really well to come back each time and pick up wickets at vital stages. Run-a-ball needed off the last couple of overs... South Africa's game to lose, you'd feel.

Unlike the previous delivery Miller was cramped for room on this occasion, couldn't quite get the space and ends up skewing that from the bottom half of the bat.
