Well, that's that from this India tour of South Africa, right after the first test India went downhill and went on to lose five games (two tests and three ODI's). Deepak Chahar almost brought that smile back to the dressing room but India choked at the end to give away to the game to South Africa who have been brilliant after the loss of first test. There's more cricket happening around us, do stick to Sportskeeda for all the live action, for now, this is, Pradeep and Bala signing off, take care and stay safe!
Time for the presentation!
Temba Bavuma (winning captain, South Africa): Well, obviously, things went a bit crazy at the end, complacency got to us when we felt we had game in the bag, guys tried a couple of things that didn't come off but in the end we were able to bring it back. Very satisfying this win, missing accomplished for us as a team. Look, I've said it earlier, many people didn't give much of a choice when the series began against India. We've been able to show that through our performances in the series and hopefully we've got some more supporters for us. I think as a team, we take a lot of confidence, the challenge is to get better and better. Quinton's been great, he's shown what a valuable asset he's been to the team. Rassie as well with the bat, he's been tremendous, the batter's had been good and the bowling has been decent even today. Big challenge within our journey, winning the test series and winning the ODI series, it does do a world of good to out confidences as a unit. I think if we look at the test series, it was hard work everyday, Indian bowlers asking right questions and you had to put up your best, it was very intense. Bowling has been relentless and the execution was very good too, same thing in the ODI series as well, everyday we've been challenged, it has been hard work in the couple of weeks, to come out in these types of conditions, some South African like and little closer to sub continent as well, still been able to dominate is a little feather in our cap. Always like to contribute to the team, enjoy my batting at the moment, not much thinking happening.
Quinton de Kock has been adjudged the Player of the match and the Player of the series for his brilliant hundred for South Africa to put up a fighting total!
Quinton de Kock: Wasn't quite the case, it wasn't flat at all, it was the kind of wicket that we are never really in. Remain positive all the time, that's just the key and that's what I was trying to do. I mean, I like scoring runs everyone, it's just that we've got some good wickets when we play against each other, pretty much what it comes down to at the end of the day I guess. Came back, it was a pretty easy, had a week of training up in Paarl and it was just a matter of finding some rhythm, match ready as well. First ODI I was trying to find my feet and in the second ODI I got my rhythm. Great coaching staff we have, it's all hard work, keeping the dressing room environment positive.
KL Rahul (losing captain, India): Deepak gave us a real chance for us, quite an exciting game, just disappointed that we didn't end up on the winning side, something we can learn from and get better. It's quite obvious where we've gone wrong, it's in front of everybody to see, the shot selection, even with the ball, we weren't hitting the right lengths consistently and to be honest we had a decent series. We played well in patches, don't think we held pressure on the opposition throughout and we ended up losing the series. I've been part of the team for quite sometime, something that stood out is the energy that we brought in as a team, effort we put in on the field. We have some guys in the team and these kinds of mistakes will keep happening but it's important not to repeat them. It's been quite good, we've had great time in South Africa, thanks for the hospitality and they've looked after well. Thanks to cricket South Africa for creating great wickets and has been exciting, both the ODI and Test series, the scorecard doesn't show that but we've been part of some great cricket.
South Africa won the game by 4 runs and the series 3-0! Shikhar Dhawan 61(73) | Virat Kohli 65(84) | Deepak Chahar 54(34) | Lungi Ngidi 10-0-58-3 | Andile Phehlukwayo 7-0-40-3 | Dwaine Pretorius 9.2-0-54-2
Well, well, Deepak Chahar come out of no where to surprise South Africa but they held their nerve, Ngidi getting that wicket of Chahar meant they stormed their way back into the contest and didn't allow the tail enders to snatch the victory. One of those innings that many will be remembered for a long time.
Chahar wasn't shy at getting his shots going ever since his arrival to the crease and two huge sixes just showed that he's got the skills and the ability to execute at the right time. Credit goes to Bumrah as well, he's stuck around at the other end but just couldn't get the finishing touches done for India.
Once Suryakumar Yadav got out, India lost hopes of chasing this target with still 10 overs to go and 80 odd runs to get. Chahar's exuberance showed that India could still pull this off for them and with the able partner Bumrah at the other end, they did it with ease. At the start of the chase, India lost Rahul cheaply, he began well on a positive note but Ngidi got the better of him. Dhawan and Kohli got the act together and stitched a 98 run partnership before Dhawan departed for a well made 61.
Kohli was joined by Pant who went for a duck, plays a reckless shot and India were three down all of a sudden. India kept losing wickets from there on at regular intervals. Kohli was undone by Maharaj's last over and then Iyer too perishes playing a pull shot that was not needed at that time. Suryaumar Yadav, the last hope for India who went on to play his shots brilliant and was going on with his innings as well.
Suryakumar Yadav too perished later on, it was up to Deepak Chahar and the rest of the batter, how well he responded but he's dejected that he just couldn't cling on and take his home in the end. India lost the game in the final over. Bumrah earlier looked to clear the mid-off but holes out and that meant Chahal and Krishna to do it in the final over which was a tough ask for them. Turned out to be a nail biting finish in the end and South Africa finish the ODI series, 3-0!
It's all over, South Africa clean sweep India, 3-0. India couldn't hold on, Chahar's heroics goes in vain and it's all smiles in the South African dressing room! What a game we've had. Chahar looks dejected near the ropes!
49.2 Dwaine Pretorius to Yuzvendra Chahal, OUT! That's it! South Africa close the game out! Short of a length delivery outside off. Chahal pulls but gets the top edge. Straight to the fielder at point
49.1 Dwaine Pretorius to Prasidh Krishna, good length on top of off. Drops it on the off-side and scampers through for one
Pretorius [9-0-53-1] to bowl the last over! Can this last pair of India take them home?
India needs 6 runs from 6 balls!
Well, well, how this game has turned on it's head. Just a couple of overs ago, Chahar was turning it on and Ngidi removed him, this is not over folks, it's down to the wire.

48.6 Sisanda Magala to Yuzvendra Chahal, slower ball full on the off-stump. Steers it straight to backward point. Can't find a single
48.5 Sisanda Magala to Prasidh Krishna, full ball outside the off-stump. Pushes it to extra cover and takes one
48.4 Sisanda Magala to Prasidh Krishna, slower ball on a good length on the stumps. Defends it back to the bowler
OH MY! What is happening? Turning out to be a nail biter, Bumrah goes now, looking to go over the top of mid-off but the ball follows Bavuma again who takes a brilliant catch. Chahar is dejected who's sitting near the boundary!
48.3 Andile Phehlukwayo to Jasprit Bumrah, OUT! South Africa are now squeezing India out of this. Full and wide of the off-stump. Bumrah tries to go aerial but connects with the toe end of the bat. It's once again Bavuma at mid-off who does the honours
48.2 Andile Phehlukwayo to Yuzvendra Chahal, low full toss outside off. Drives it to wide mid-off and scampers through. Chahal runs on to the stumps at the non-striker's end
48.1 Andile Phehlukwayo to Yuzvendra Chahal, slower ball ends up as a low full toss wide of the off-stump. Mistimes the ball straight mid-off.
India need 8 runs in 12 balls!
Huge wicket in that over for South Africa. Chahar's brilliant comes to an end, Chahal and Bumrah has to do the finishing touches here.
