And so that is that. The Adelaide Strikers are now the fifth team to taste WBBL glory and as Tahlia McGrath said, the tag of champions has a nice ring to it. It's their moment to savor and they will relish this for a long, long time. It's been an absolute pleasure bringing the coverage of this final, as well as the rest of the WBBL season to you here on Sportskeeda. Tahlia McGrath lifts the trophy and the rest of the Strikers' unit joins her on stage for the celebration. "Champions" is their cry and champions they are indeed. Finally! It was heartbreak for them last season but TMac and her crew have roared back this year with more or less the same unit. They had faith they were going in the right direction and they stuck with it. Now, they have their redemption. Now, they have the trophy. Their party will surely go long into the night before a few of the players, including their captain, shift their focus back to international duty.

There aren't many greater personalities in the world than Ellyse Perry and the way she stayed graceful in defeat is part of the reason we all admire her so much, isn't it? Her side were the standout throughout the group stages of the tournament as they topped the league stages but unfortunately, their one bad outing came when it mattered the most. It's still a massive step in the right direction for them after a campaign to forget last season. If some inspiration to turn things around and redemption of their own is what they need, then they don't have to look beyond the Adelaide Strikers. That's the level of competition in this tournament and that's why it's one of the best cricket leagues in the world.

Tahlia McGrath (Adelaide Strikers captain): That's got a very nice ring to it (champions) and it hasn't sunk in yet. It feels very special. Two crazy weeks to be fair. We didn't know whether we would be finishing 2nd 3rd or 4th. This group is ready for anything - we were that ready and that hungry and we showed that today. Last year hurt. We had a really good season and fell short at the final. We've been building and everytime we got close we fell short. It definitely hurt and we were pretty determined. First of all, thank you to Pez and the Sixers. You guys have been the standout team and have played some amazing cricket. I'm sure you'll be back next year. Thank you to Cricket Australia and the WBBL. The competition keeps getting bigger and better. I love playing it and it's a big part of the calendar. To our sponsors, thank you for supporting us. To everyone at the Strikers, the support staff, you've been brilliant. Our fans coming out - there was a lot of pink today but it was a crazy atmosphere. And wow, what a team. I'm so proud of these guys, I love these guys and this one's going to be pretty special tonight.

Ellyse Perry (Sydney Sixers captain): It's been a wonderful season for us. We've thoroughly enjoyed each other's company. I know it didn't go our way today but I'm proud of the way we played. It's such a thrill to have a wonderful group of people. It's been so nice to play here (in Sydney). We truly thank you so much for your support. We felt that all the way through. To have a crowd like this come for women's cricket is great for us. Firstly, I'd like to say a huge congrats to Tahlia and her team. It is well deserved. They have been knocking on the door for a while. Thank you so much for the WBBL. The quality was outstanding this year and it gets better every year. Thank you for the officials. It's been wonderful to have a full season without covid interruptions. We appreciate all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. To Motty and our team, I'm sorry it didn't go our way but the way we played and enjoyed each other's company was great to be a part of. I can't thank you all enough for the fun. The match officials are now presented with their mementos. The championship medals are handed out to the Adelaide Strikers, starting with their openers Laura Wolvaardt and Katie Mack. What a partnership they had to set things up front and while the Strikers lost their way, their bowlers stood up to be counted thereafter. Huge roar from her teammates as Madeline Penna walks up to collect her medal. This must feel extra sweet for her!

Deandra Dottin is the Player of the Match for her stellar all-round display. Here's what she has to say: It means a lot to me. It's been a long season for me after retiring from internationals. Came here and we played very well. My first win here in the WBBL finals and it feels special. I knew I had to stay until the end. In the Power Surge, it did not work to plan so we just had to work with what we got. It's always good to get two of their top batters and keep them on the back foot.

Tegan McPharlin, who will retire after this game: (Better end possible?) I couldn't have asked (for it). You dream of it and I'm just SOOO happy right now. Congrats to Bolts (Nicole Bolton) and her career. I know how it feels like to be on the other side of the result when you retire. Maitlan Brown there went bang, bang, bang. Kept us in the game. But it's been a beaut of a season, we've played brilliantly all year. My mum and dad are here today and I can't thank them enough for traveling over to support. All my indoor cricket friends - so many people (laughs in joy).

Madeline Penna: (After last year's heartbreak, does this feel better?) Way better. Way better, I can tell you that much. So proud of the girls, so proud. Spent a lot of time pre-season. My first pre-season without being injured. It was more about the belief side of things. I get very hard on myself. When you don't perform and get messages it doesn't feel nice. It was just about backing myself. The teammates are brilliant in keeping the camp calm. After last year we knew we wanted to put in a fight.

Let's get some player reactions in starting with Megan Schutt: That was crazy. We didn't post the total we wanted after the start we got. We've got the best bowling attack in the league and we showed that today. I'm very confident in our bowling attack and we can defend anything. We just rolled the punches. (On winning it for Tegan McPharlin and assistant coach Jude Coleman) We have that spirit and they've been around the group for a long time.

It's redemption for the Strikers from Adelaide. Their campaign ended in tears last season when they lost out to the Perth Scorchers. There are some tears tonight as well, but the emotion couldn't be more contrasting. The Strikers delivered a bolt from the blue tonight to clinch their first title in WBBL history.

It's heartbreak for the Sydney Sixers. They were the best side in the group stages of the tournament and it seemed like they would be the undisputed champions at the end of the day. If only it was that easy, eh? They had this one in their grasp after their bowlers did a splendid job to restrict the Strikers to what seemed like a below-par total at the halfway stage.

All the credit for this win goes to the Adelaide bowling unit, which was one of the best throughout the tournament, if not the best. With their backs against the wall, they got off to a rollicking start to have the Sixers stumbling at 14-4 at the end of 6 overs. Darcie Brown got the ball rolling with the wicket of Healy but it was the World Boss Deandra Dottin who grabbed this game by the scruff of the neck.

It was her half-century in the first innings that powered Adelaide to the total they got to. She topped that with a double wicket maiden in her first over, dismissing Bates and Gardner to have a side right back into the contest. The experience of Burns and Bolton also wasn't enough to help Sydney rescue this, despite Ellyse Perry's best efforts to steady the ship.

Tahlia McGrath's captaincy deserves the spotlight too, with the captain getting rewarded for most of her bowling changes. Darcie Brown came back into the attack to dismiss the Sixers captain, which sounded the alarm bells for the Women in Pink. Maitlan Brown and Sophie Ecclestone fought admirably for a couple of overs but it was the Strikers who eventually had the last laugh, clinching their maiden WBBL crown and writing their name in the history books.

Doesn't get enough of it as she clears her front foot and Wolvaardt lunges forward before nearly making a hash of it.
