16:34 (IST)8 NOV 2017

The India U19 football team is all set for their final clash in the 2018 AFC U19 Championship qualifiers, as they go head to head against Turkmenistan, at the Prince Mohamed bin Fahd Stadium, in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday.

The Indians have been on a mixed bag of form in the qualifiers so far. In their first match, they suffered a heavy 5-0 loss at the hands of hosts Saudi Arabia, diminishing their hopes of qualification. However, they revived their hopes to some extent, as they held on to a goalless draw against Yemen in their second match.

The second game showed that the Indian colts can churn out good performances against quality opposition, giving them some hope of qualification for the tournament, which may be achieved with the help of a second-placed finish in the group.

However, a poor goal difference of -5 does not do India’s chances any good.

One player, who has continued to impress, is India’s FIFA U17 World Cup hero Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem. The goalkeeper had attracted a lot of eyeballs with his saves during the mega event, and continued doing so, in the AFC U19 Championship qualifiers.

Indian squad:
Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem, Mohammad Nawaz, Prabhusukhan Gill
Defenders: Namgyal Bhutia, Sahil Panwar, Deepak Tangri, Ashish Rai, Boris Singh Thangjam, Sanjeev Stalin, Anwar Ali, Jitendra Singh.
Midfielders: Abhishek Haldar, Princeton Rebello, Suresh Singh Wangjam, Amarjit Singh Kiyam (c), Rahul KP, Ninthoinganba Meetei, Nongdamba Naorem, Jeakson Singh.
Forwards: Edmund Lalrindika, Noarem Roshan Singh, Lalawmpuia, Rahim Ali.
