Those last two arrows dashed whatever little hopes India had of a comeback.
Right after producing three 10s, they were expected to continue with that confidence. But they couldn't.
And the calm Chinese Taipei archers never faltered, even though they too were not at their flawless best. They just did enough when it mattered the most to take the gold.
India's performance at the 2018 Hyundai Antalya Archery World Cup has been below par this time around, with only the compound women’s team making it to the Finals and having the chance to win a gold medal for the country. India's Divya Dhayal, Muskan Kirar and Jyothi Surekha Vennam will take on archers from Chinese Taipei in this Final. Making it to the Final is a boon for the trio as it will give them the much needed confidence for the upcoming Asian Games.
After getting a bye in the first round, the Indian archers faced 7th seeded Italy in the second round. Here the scores were level at 227-227 and Indians qualified further by winning 27-26 in the shoot-off. Post this the Indian trio had a difficult task ahead of them as they faced 2nd seeded South Africa in the Quarterfinals. They kept their cool and surpassed this hurdle as well by winning 234-230, making their way to the semifinals.
Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Divya Dhayal, and Muskan Kirar then faced 3rd seed Turkey in the semifinal. They eased past Turkey and won comprehensively with the scoreline 233-224.
The summit clash will be between 4th seed Chinese Taipei and 10th seed India. The Indians have done really well to make it to the finals and this promises to be an interesting tie.
Meanwhile, Lin Ming-Ching, Chen Li Ju, and Chen Yi-Hsuan will be representing Chinese Taipei. Their run has also been exceptional so far. They defeated France 228-224 in the second round, Russia 227-225 in the quarterfinal and defied all odds by defeating 1st seed Korea in the semifinal, with the scoreline of 232-231.
