Day five ended more with a whimper, rather than a bang. On what was a disappointing day for India, several participants lost their matches in the final stages. Ankita Raina (WR 189) bagged a Bronze medal as she went down against Zhang Shuai (WR 34). She fought valiantly against the Chinese Number eventually lost 6-4, 7-6(6). Meanwhile, the Men's doubles pair of Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan made it to the Final of the event and are have ensured at least a Silver medal for India. India's 15-year-old shooter Shardul Vihan also bagged a Silver in the Men's Double Trap Final and took the total tally to 17. There was also progression in other racquet sports, as badminton squash, and indeed Tennis saw Indian athletes advance. However, India's loss to Iran in the Men's Kabaddi Semifinal was completely unprecedented and historic in a wrong sense for India! There were also losses in Archery and Weightlifting.
There were five Rowing finals to be contested on Day Five - Men's Single Sculls, Men's Double Sculls, Men's Pair, Women's Double Sculls, and Men's Lightweight Eight. None of the events brought back medals.
Rowing returns on Day Six of the Games with more Finals to contest. Men's Lightweight Single Sculls, Men's Lightweight Double Sculls, Men's Lightweight Eight, Men's Quadruple, and Women's Four, are all being contested today.
