Two Indian weightlifters were in contention when the day began and an unfortunate injury to Commonwealth Games Gold medalist Satish Kumar Sivalingam meant that he finished 10th. With India's best medal hope gone, Ajay Singh did well to lift 327kg but he fell short of bronze by 14kg. And that ends the wrestling action on day 5. Join us again tomorrow.
Ajay Singh finishes in fifth place in the men’s 77 kg category with a total lift of 327 kg. In comparison, North Korea won gold with 348kg, South Korea took silver with 347kg and Thailand took bronze with 341 kg.
He is calm and composed but once again he slightly shifts to his right but he hangs on completes it. Successful and he is jubilant because he knows he got out of jail there.
A couple of failed attempts from the two Korean weightlifters. And now it is time for the officials to get some work done on the barbell with plates, ensuring that is clean and everything is set ahead of the next set who will take up the Clean & Jerk.
Currently, Indonesia's Rahmat Erwin Abdullah leads the charge but he is among the few who have completed both their Clean & Jerk and Snatch. His total of 314kg is sure to be challenged once everyone is done.
This is a step too far for Ajay Singh, who is off balance and cannot complete the 148kg in Snatch. He lifts then he is always falling back and eventually he has to go let go.
Ajay now makes his way to the arena and rubs his hand with chalk and is looking ready to raise the bar once again. This time it is 148kg in his final attempt.
Every wrestler will have to finish the planned lift in both Snatch and Clean & Jerk. So far, the most common planned lift is 140 kg in Snatch and 170 in C&J or just some slight variation of it.
Unsurprisingly it hasn't begun just yet. The three different time zones and lack of clarity regarding when the event starts has been frustrating. But if that is the case for the readers, on must just wonder how it is for the athletes.
The action is scheduled to start inside 10 minutes but don't hold your breath. As soon as it begins, whenever that is, be sure to tune in for all the live updates.
