Flamboyantly exhibiting his true colors the sixth seeded Indian Lakshya Sen caused a major upset of sorts in the Badminton Asia Junior Championships on Friday when he raged past the second-seeded Chinese Li Shifeng 21-14, 21-12 in a neat 38 minute encounter. Sen after slaying the second seed has entered the boys’ singles semi-finals in Jakarta.

With that win, the 16-year-old from Almora has ensured a medal for India. He next takes on the fourth seed Ikhsan Leonardo Imanuel Rumbay of Indonesia for a chance to fight it for the title clash.

In the match-up between the sixth-seeded Indian and second-seeded Chinese, the scales were tilted heavily in favor of the latter. But it was Li who got the first jolt when the Indian thumped him in the first game, employing his net-play to good effect and using half-court smashes rampantly.

Sen, who has been quite the powerhouse of talent has shown top form in his match against the Chinese. In 2017, he did not emerge so successful to qualify for the semis and took his leave in the Round of 16 where he was handed his defeat. However, Sen has had a taste of medal glory here at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships when he went up to the semis in 2016 but faltered there to Sun Feixiang of China. If Sen emerges on the winning side in tomorrow's clash against Imanuel Rumbay then he will script history for himself.
