But instead of picking out the unmarked Diomande at the back post, the Hull midfielder decides to go for goal from an acute angle, and can only direct his effort into the side-netting.

70' Good effort! That’s strong attacking play from Giroud, who shirks off his marker before turning goalwards. He tries his luck from range with a low strike, but it is directed straight into the arms of Jakupovic, who is able to make an easy save.

35' CLOSE! That’s terrible goalkeeping from Ospina, who gets nowhere near to claiming the cross from Maloney’s free-kick down the right. The ex-Nice shot-stopper decides to stand his ground rather than come out to catch the delivery, and if not for the timely intervention of Mertesacker Bruce would have been able to get on the end of it.

11' Shot on target! Walcott shows a brilliant turn of pace and leaves his marker for dead sending in a delightful chip across goal. The cross is met by Welbeck but his header is straight into the goalkeeper's hands

10' Good pressure from Campbell forces Tymon - and then Davies - into an error, which is capitalised on by Walcott. The pacy forward drives in on goal before trying his luck with a low effort, but Meyler gets across to make the block.
