Chile thought they had taken the lead just before the stroke of half-time when Vargas lifted the ball over Ondoa but it was ruled out for offside by VAR. They finally took the lead when Vidal thumped a header into the back of the net from an Alexis Sanchez cross before the final piece of drama.
Alexis Sanchez beat the goalkeeper and a defender to try and double his side's lead but it ricocheted off a defender only for Vargas to bundle it home. The assistant ruled it out for offside but the decision was overruled by VAR, who deemed that the goal was legal.
VAR - Video Assistant Referee - made his debut only last night and it has already overturned 3 decisions. This could be a path-breaker or a deal-breaker, depends on which side of the fence you are on.

Chile have run out victors here. They sure deserved their win, having been the better side for the majority of the game.
Alexis Sanchez came on and changed the game for his side. Cameroon will be ruing missing out on a point tonight.

Chile were denied by VAR earlier and now they have been awarded a goal by the Video Assistant Referee.

Alexis Sanchez latched on to an over the top ball and ran clear towards goal. He got the better of the defender with a slight feint and did the same with the goalkeeper before opting to shoot with his left. The shot hits a defender and falls to Vargas, who makes no mistake.
The assistant had his flag up and initially, the goal was not given by the referee before VAR was consulted and it was concluded that neither Alexis nor Vargas were offside and the goal was legit.

Chile are denied once again by the official.

89' Anguissa is in some kind of anguish and is set to be replaced.
Substitution: Mandjeck comes on to replace Anguissa.

88' Almost a second for Chile but Mabouka is there to ensure that a cross from the right wing doesn't find its way through to Alexis Sanchez.

It was Alexis Sanchez, who else, who created the goal. The Arsenal forward got the better of his marker to send a cross into the box and Vidal was on hand to guide it into the back of the net. No offside this time and Chile have the vital goal.

81' GOOOAAAALLLL!! Vidal scores to give Chile the lead!

79' Bassogog gets the better of his marker and darts into the box, the forward's cross is blocked and a good move comes to an end.

77' Moukandjo makes his way through a swarm of Chilean players and cuts the ball back to Fai but the defender's attempts to shoot at goal is blocked.

75' Sanchez tries to find the run of Isla into the box but the ball is cut out by the Cameroonian defence.

72' ISLA misses from a few yards out! A corner is swung in by Chile and Vargas gets the slightest of touches, Isla has to guide the ball into an almost unguarded net but his header is off target and Cameroon survive.

71' Substitution: Chile have made all of their substitutions while Cameroon are yet to make even one. It is Silva who comes on to replace Aranguiz, who appears to have tweaked something.

70' Vargas takes a shot from the edge of the box but it is deflected behind.

69' Bassogog advances forward as he tries to beat two Chilean defenders with slight body feints. He is successful in the first attempt but gives away the ball in the second.

67' Moukandjo stands over the free-kick and tries to caress it into the top left corner but it is over and we will have to wait for the first goal of the night.

66' YELLOW CARD: Aboubakar is fouled by Jara and the Chilean goes into the book of the referee.
The Cameroon forward took the ball and turned brilliantly before bearing down on the goal. Jara had no option and had to clip the striker and the AFCON champions have the free-kick in a dangerous position.

64' Substitution: Fuensalida comes off to be replaced by Valencia.

60' Alexis with his first involvement of the night, as he curls a ball into the box from the left but Ngadjui heads it comfortably for his keeper to gather.

59' Vidal is adjudged to have fouled his opposite number - Cameroon's #8 - Moukandjo and the African nation have a free-kick. They have started the second half as the brighter side.

Reminder: The Arsenal forward is nursing an ankle injury and was expected to play no part tonight but you can't keep him off the pitch, fit or not.

53' After some neat interplay between Aboubakar and Moukandjo, the ball falls to Djoum who tries to find the back of the net from around 30 yards out but Beausejour is there to block it.

51' Passing and probing by both teams in the early exchanges. Not as open-ended as the first-half.

48' Vidal has the ball on the edge of Cameroon's box, he cuts in and shoots with his left, while being offside and the shot is way off target.

47' And Cameroon have the first chance of the half. Mabouka makes his way down the right wing before putting in a cross towards the back post which narrowly misses Moukandjo.

46' And we are underway in the second half!

A controversial end to a frantic half. It had chances, near misses and some excellent saves, and at the very end,Chile celebrated thinking they have taken the lead only for the referee to rule it out for offside after consulting the VAR.

HALF-TIME: Cameroon 0-0 Chile

WAIT! Controversy here as the referee rules out the goal after consulting the Video Assistant Referee. Vargas was adjudged to be offside by VAR, he was millimeters offside, if at all. Still 0-0!
Vidal is absolutely livid as the two teams make their way back into the tunnel.

The ball is played down the right and Vidal has it, the Bayern Munich midfielder plays it through to Vargas who just lifts it over an onrushing Ondoa.

42' Aboubakar wins a corner for his side with some neat bits of trickery down the right-hand side. Cameroon fail to threaten from the corner.

40' Vargas fires over from around 12 yards out after being set up by his teammate but the striker ends up firing it over the bar.

38' After a frantic start, the tempo of the game has slowed down a little bit with both teams looking to return at half-time on level terms.

35' Another defensive error as a stray pass is intercepted by Moukandjo. The forwards bursts forward before trying to curl one into the back of the net but the shot is wide and Chile survive one again.

32' Aranguiz whips in the free-kick and Cameroon are able to clear initially. But the ball is played back into the box and after some ping-pong the referee adjudges them to be offside.

31' Vidal goes down under a heavy challenge from Siani and Chile have a free-kick in a dangerous position.

30 minutes up in the game and we could and should have seen a couple of goals.

27' Ondoa denies Chile again and this time it is Fuensalida who cannot guide the ball past the shot-stopper. Vargas slips Fuensalida into the box past the defenders but the shot by the midfielder is palmed away to safety.

25' WHAT A HIT BY PUCH! The forward cuts in from the left, finds himself in a lot of space and lets it fly from around 30 yards. The ball swerves away from Ondoa but the goalkeeper is able to palm it away.
