Ernesto Valverde's men regained their healthy 7-point lead over Real Madrid, so early into the sason.

Barcelona record yet another win away from home as they maintain their near-perfect start to the season. Messi failed to get on the scoresheet tonight but it wouldn't matter to him, his side recorded a win in their first-ever meeting with the Catalan outfit.

FULL-TIME: Girona 0-3 Barcelona

90+3' Messi has the ball inside the box, he nutmegs a defender and finds the run of Denis Suarez but the Spaniard didn't attempt to get on the end of it and Iraizoz gathers.

90+2' Barcelona have a free-kick as the Argentine is bundled over as he goes on one of those runs in his quest to score tonight. The 5-time Ballon d'Or winer takes the resulting free-kick and lifts it over the wall but gets a little too much on it and it sails behind.

90' Portu drives at the Barcelona defence as he twists and turns to skin Alba before trying to cross the ball into the middle but it is stopped by Ter Stegen.

88' Pons has a view of goal and he takes the chance as he lets it fly but Ter Stegen is unperturbed as he watches it sail behind.

87' Girona win back to back corners, their 8th and 9th of the game. The ball ping pongs in the box before getting to Portu, who attempts an acrobatic overhead kick which deflects off a teammate and goes behind.

85' Girona are still trying to find a way past the Barcelona defence. They ping a couple of balls forward in the hope of making something happen but the away side are able to thwart it.

82' Yellow Card; Kayode drives forward and is over-enthusiastic as he dives into a challenge on Busquets, the latter pleads for innocence as the referee blew his whistle, while it was the former who was booked.

Andres Iniesta is replaced by Denis Suarez, while Andre Gomes comes on in place of Aleix Vidal.

78' Substitution: Moreno comes on to replace Maffeo.

78' Luiz goes on a run holding off Mascherano, he gets a shot away but the Argentine dives to block it behind for a corner.

76' Messi is starting to get a lot of the ball as he looks to get on the scoresheet. The Argentine tries to run down the middle evading a couple of challenges, he gets past the first but is robbed off the ball by second one.

74' Denis Suarez is being prepared by Ernesto Valverde to come on. It will be interesting to see who he will replace.

72' Portu hits the side-netting with an acrobatic volley. Girona are not giving up on this one.

Roberto has the ball as he advances down the middle luring the Girona defenders to come towards him, freeing up space for Suarez. The Spaniard then treads the ball through to Suarez, who takes a couple of touches before curling it past an onrushing Iraizoz.

65' Rakitic tackles Pons from behind but gets to the ball. The referee gives a free-kick in his favour but the crowd does not approve of that decision.

63' Kayode is asked to calm down by the referee after the substitute is very animated as he is adjudged to have fouled Rakitic.

61' Messi goes on one of those runs of his as he sprints along with Maffeo before being forced to change his path, he tries a couple of bursts to get out of the situation but Girona players close him down.

60' Substitution: And we have the first change of the night as Olunga is replaced by Kayode.

59' Portu barges into Roberto attempting to get on the end of a cross from the right. The referee gives him a talking to.

Barcelona are relying on long balls to catch Girona on the counter and cause problems.

Girona are bombing forward in numbers looking to pull one back here.

56' Ter Stegen saves Olunga's header from only a few yards out. Girona have a corner and it is played towards the back post where Olunga rises highest to head it towards goal but it is straight at Ter Stegen and is saved easily.

54' Mascherano has been pinging a lot of balls forward and this time he tries to find the run of Suarez, the assistant has his flag up but replays suggest that the former Liverpool man was onside.

52' Ter Stegen has to track back as Girona try to catch him off guard with an attempt from the halfway line. The shot sails over and the German has been warned.

50' Luiz goes close as he rises highest inside the box to nod Portu's cross but it is just over the bar.

Suarez and Vidal run at the Girona defence, it is the Spaniard who gets to the byline with the ball and BACKHEELS it into the path of Suarez, who again BACKHEELS it between the legs of Iraizoz to double Barcelona's lead. Actually no, wait, replays confirm Iraizoz got the final touch on the ball and Suarez despite his best attempts failed to get a touch.

48' GOOOOAAAALLLL!!!! Suarez scores with a BACKHEEL!

47' Messi goes close. The Argentine has been released with a through ball by Mascherano and he tries to lift the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper with his first touch, but Iraizoz makes himself big and is able to deflect the ball.

46' And we are underway in the second half. Barcelona get us started, they are playing from right to left.

Lionel Messi is on the verge of creating history, all he has to do is score tonight. Will he be able to do it?

Barcelona lead courtesy of Aday's own goal. The away side have been the better team but have failed to muster a lot of clear-cut chances. The newly-promoted side, on the other hand, have failed to convert their chances and may regret it.

45' Half-Time: Girona 0-1 Barcelona

44' Portu skins Alba down the right-hand side to cut in before attempting to cross the ball towards the back post but it smacks Umtiti straight in the face before falling to Pons, who fails to control it and Rakitic wins the ball back.

42' Yellow Card: Aday's evening goes from bad to worse, he is now guilty of fouling Roberto and the referee books him.

40' A teasing cross is played to Olunga from the left and the forward rises highest to get on the end of it but he cannot direct it goalwards. He should have done better there.

39' The Argentine tries to float it towards the back post but Iraizoz comes out to gather it comfortably.

38' Andres Iniesta is fouled some 35 yards from goal on the left-hand side. It will be interesting to see what Messi does from here.

36' Rakitic attempts to find the bottom right corner from range and almost succeeds forcing Iraizoz to make a diving save to push the ball behind for a corner.
